It was someone named German Ivan Meraz, who lost to Davis by a decision in 2014. Before this fight, Davis managed to knock out every single opponent. After 20 days of this fight, Davis wrote the renowned tweet.  However, in the later years, Davis admitted that he took things a bit lightly at that time. He told Boxing Junkie at the final news conference of his fight against Isaac Cruz, “I ate too much after the weigh-in. I drank a lot of soda, ate a bunch of stuff. That messed me up.”

Later in the same interview, Davis also stated that it didn’t bother him much, that he couldn’t knock out Ivan Meraz. He felt winning the fight is what matters in the end.

Many thought that the tweet was done due to the remorse that sat inside Gervonta Davis, for not being able to knock his opponent out for the first time in his professional career. But, later Davis stated that he was always at peace with the fact that he could not knock every one of his opponents.

In the same presser, Davis also said, “Does it bother me that I couldn’t knock him out? Nah. I don’t think I’m going to knockout every opponent my whole career.”

While acknowledging landing “perfect” punches for maximum impact, Davis confessed that he remains uncertain about the specific reasons as to why his shots inflict a lot of damage. He stated, “When I catch them with a perfect shot, they either fall or they’re really tough. And they felt it for sure.”

Canelo Alvarez might just have to face David Benavidez! Last Saturday, ‘The Mexican Monster’ went up against Demetrius Andrade, winning the fight via technical knockout in the sixth round. Enter Terence Crawford, the undefeated and undisputed champion who was in the audience when the fight went down. In a recent interview, ‘Bud’ analyzed Benavidez’s fighting style while predicting his fate against the formidable ‘Cinnamon.

Previously, the Phoenix native was officially declared the mandatory title defense for Canelo by the WBC. Nevertheless, the fight between them seemed up in the air! However, WBC later claimed whoever wins the Benavidez vs. Andrade fight would get the shot at Canelo. So, now that Benavidez has won, he wants to fight with Canelo more than anything else. But the question is – can Benavidez defeat Canelo Alvarez? Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford sheds light on the matter!

While speaking to Fight Hype, ‘Bud’ praised Benavidez’s fighting style during the fight against Andrade. “He coming behind his jab. He throwing straight punches. He going to the body, going up and down. He just got tighten up a little bit on his defense, but other than that man he good. He ready for Canelo,” said Crawford.

When probed about Benavidez’s fate against Canelo Alvarez, the undisputed boxer found himself at the crossroads, unable to decide. “I still got it at 50/50. Benavidez good, but Canelo is you know what I mean great. We got see the fight man we all want to see the fight,” said Terence Crawford.

Despite numerous callouts, Canelo hasn’t responded to Benavidez’s challenge. However, Benavidez has a plan in case Canelo refuses to fight him. During the post-fight conference last Saturday night, ‘The Mexican Monster’ suggested he will fight everyone else if Canelo doesn’t fight him. “But if Canelo doesn’t want to fight against me, then I’m going to beat everybody else. That’s the bottom line,” said Benavidez.

“It’s not just about Canelo [at] 168. It’s a very talented division, a very deep division. So, there are plenty of quality opponents for me to face. [Dmitry] Bivol is there, and I would like to face him too,” said Benavidez. It’s worth mentioning that Dmitry Bivol defeated Canelo Alvarez, so a win against Bivol could technically prove his superiority.

Terence Crawford Rules Out Facing Two World Champions: “Mega Fights Only”

Terence Crawford became undisputed welterweight champion in 2023, and is perhaps the most celebrated fighter of the year because of it.

His victory over Errol Spence Jr disproved the theory that it was a 50/50 match-up, and catapulted ‘Bud’ to the top of many pound-for-pound lists.

At 36-years-old with 40 wins and no losses, he’s looking to chase more greatness before the time comes to hang up the gloves.

Since he has obligations to face Spence in a rematch, the IBF stripped him of its welterweight belt and awarded it to Interim Champion, Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis, who promptly called Crawford out for a fight.

Unfortunately for the undefeated Philly native, Crawford told FightHype he has other plans.

“Listen, man, Jaron, he’s in one place, I’m in another. I’m looking for mega fights right now, and that’s not a mega fight. That’s my standpoint on it. I’m looking to fight guys like Canelo. That’s pretty much it, and the rematch with Spence. That’s it. That’s over with for me.”

That standpoint goes for Jermell Charlo too, who until recently held the undisputed title one division up at 154. Charlo faced Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in September, but failed to impress on the big stage and lost a one-sided decision.

Because of that, Crawford is no longer interested in the grudge match.

“Charlo’s not a mega fight. His last performance wasn’t a great performance.”

Next up for Crawford regardless is Spence 2, with a weight and date expected soon.
