Recently, a video surfaced on Instagram showing Davis knocking his sparring partner out of the ring and mocking him.
A video from 2019 which was posted by Davis himself was reposted to Instagram by ‘michaelbensonboxing’ recently. It showed a sparring session between Tank and a sparring partner in red. In the video one of Tank’s punches connects with the guy knocking him outside the ropes. He captioned the post, “Gervonta Davis knocked his sparring partner halfway out of the ring, then got out himself to mock him…” As soon as the clip went viral, angry comments from fans started pouring in.
One of the fans mocked Davis saying, “Probably the best win on his record.” Another went in on Davis saying, “Sparring partner, AKA a guy he is PAYING to give him work? Cool, when’s he gonna knock a real opponent out of the ring in a real title fight? Hasn’t been in a world title fight since 2017 but nice job releasing footage of you beating up nobodies.”
A fan also mentioned, Devin Haney, saying, “Devin Haney needs to humble him, Tank only fights mid boxers.” asking Haney to beat Tank at 135lbs. Another commentator said, “I hope Tank will fight against Haney or Teofimo Lopez next year.IMO posting and bragging about sparring is lame as hell especially these pro boxers, sparring supposed to be good work and trying to focus on a skill you want to improve.” Meanwhile, one fan simply asked, “Why’s he mocking him tho.” Everyone seemed pretty unified on calling Tank out on his actions and agreed that he shouldn’t have done it.
If Regis Prograis defeats Devin Haney on Saturday, the WBC junior welterweight champion may face a string of championship bouts. Teofimo Lopez Jr. and Ryan Garcia are two of the best 140-pound fighters that Prograis could face off against. If the price was right, Prograis would also accept a rematch with Josh Taylor to exact revenge for the only defeat in his career.
However, Prograis stated that a fight between him and someone like Gervonta Davis would need to happen at the junior welterweight class of 140 lbs. Although Davis has faced Mario Barrios at 140 pounds in a fight, he now views himself as a lightweight fighter. In his most recent matchup with Garcia, Davis used a 136-pound catchweight to win via knockout in the seventh round. If Prograis pulls off one of the biggest upset victories of the year, he might be in a favorable position. Prograis is listed as an almost +350 underdog by many sportsbooks.
