The reason why Andy Ruiz Jr vs Deontay Wilder never happened

Jorge Capetillo has said that money is the reason why Andy Ruiz Jr and Deontay Wilder never met in the ring in what would have been a mouth-watering heavyweight clash.

The pair were ordered by the WBC to compete in an eliminator for the right to become the mandatory challenger to Tyson Fury, who had knocked Wilder out twice in three fights.

But, the fight never materialised between the powerful hitter out of Alabama and the fast counterpuncher from California, with money being attributed as the cause by Ruiz Jr‘s former trainer.

“I think it was about the purse, the amount of money,” Capetillo said to Betway.

“Both sides want to negotiate the best they can for themselves and I think they didn’t get to an agreement because of the numbers.

“I think that was a good fight for Andy. I would be so happy if he fights Deontay Wilder for sure. He’s the quicker fighter and faster fighter.

“He can punch, but unfortunately they couldn’t get an agreement. There was back and forth but you know how boxing is.”

What next for Andy Ruiz Jr and Deontay Wilder?

Wilder appears to have moved on to attempting to set up a fight against Britain’s Anthony Joshua, who was a unified champion between 2017 and 2020 before being defeated twice by Oleksandr Usyk.

If that pair were to get into the ring, it would see two giants known for their power and speed slugging it out.

It would also see a clash between two Olympians, with Wilder winning bronze at Beijing 2008 (inspiring his name ‘The Bronze Bomber’), whilst Joshua winning gold at London 2012.

Joshua has struggled for form since his shock defeat to Ruiz in 2019, but with a knockout victory over Robert Helenius in 2023 he could be nursing his way back to the form that saw him KO Wladimir Klitschko in 2017.

The duo, 33 and 35 respectively, have twice been on the the brink of a historic domestic dust-up but have yet to share the ring with one another.

British boxing fans are still itching to see the pair duke it out before they call time on their careers, although the same, seemingly, can’t be said for former heavyweight champ Frank Bruno.

The former WBC titleholder told The Gypsy King: “I don’t think Joshua should go anywhere near you.

“Because you’ll teach him a lesson you know, a boxing lesson.”

Fan favourite Fury is well aware of the global interest in a fight with AJ but has zero interest in facing his fellow Brit.

He told The Daily Mail: “I don’t really care what he says. He’s a bum in my opinion.

“He’s just one big bum-dosser that has been knocked out three times.

“He’s been knocked out twice and had three losses.

“He can’t even compare in my league any more.

“It’s not even a fight I am thinking about any more.

“I’m not even interested. That bubble has been burst.

“His virginity has been taken away so it’s not interesting for me any more.

“He’s been spanked by Usyk twice and been beaten by a fat man.

“So it’s not in my interest to beat him.”

Current WBC king Fury is gearing up for a controversial crossover clash with former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia next month.

And he insists the boxing novice poses more of a threat to him than former unified champ AJ, saying: “I am fighting a guy who is in his prime, who is a champion.

“Who is bigger than him, who is stronger than him and who is a bigger knockout puncher than him.

“He needs to get to the back of the queue. That fight is gone, it’s dead.

“That fight was off the cards as soon as he got beaten.”

Liv Morgan has opened up about her romantic storyline with Lana (CJ Perry). During the latter’s time in WWE, she was involved in an angle with Bobby Lashley. Meanwhile, Morgan formed an alliance with Perry’s husband, Rusev, now known as Miro in AEW.

In an interview with Inside The Ropes, Morgan discussed her on-screen program with Perry. The WWE star stated that she would like to revisit the angle down the line.

“Me personally, I would love to touch on that story again because I think it’s so important just to show not different people but, you know, ‘Hey, maybe I love this girl,’ you know. I think it’s important just to show that. But I don’t think you can ever say never in WWE. I think anything and everything is open to being visited again. Is that happening? I have no idea. But would I like it? For sure. But it was a very crazy experience.”

It remains to be seen how long Morgan will be sidelined from active competition. In the meantime, her tag team partner, Raquel Rodriguez, is set to challenge Rhea Ripley for the WWE Women’s World Championship at Payback 2023.

Is Terence Crawford Afraid To Fight Errol Spence At 154?

Terence Crawford may choose to force the rematch with Errol Spence Jr. to be contested at 147 rather than fighting him at 154, which would involve facing a full-strength, 100% version of the Dallas fighter. We don’t know if Spence will reject taking the rematch at 147, as that would put him in a situation where he would once again be fighting at roughly 30% capacity, giving Crawford, a fighter who started his career at 135,  a monstrous advantage.

Choosing to face Spence at 147 increases the chances of Crawford winning. More than ever, it’s important that Terence wins the rematch with Errol because he dreams of moving up to 168 to fight Canelo Alvarez or Jermell Charlo for the undisputed championship. Crawford Can’t Afford To Lose To Spence If Crawford loses to Spence at 154, he can forget his pipe dream about fighting the Canelo-Jermell winner at 168.  Losing the rematch to Spence ruins everything for Crawford, who will never get a chance to get that retirement payday from Canelo or Jermell.

So how does Crawford ensure there are no trip-ups for his rematch with Spence? You guessed it. Making the second fight at 147 to drain Spence, which greatly improves the 36-year-old Crawford’s chances of winning. When you get to his age, you have to gain any advantage you can get to stay in the game. Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) obviously knows that if he fights the former unified welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) at 154, it would be a whole different kettle of fish, and he would be a real war that involves taking punishment that would age him. It would be a class move on Crawford’s part to fight Spence at any weight that he wants, be it 154, 160, or 168. After all, if Crawford truly believes he’s got the talent to fight Canelo for his 168-lb title, why wouldn’t he agree to face Spence at 154 or whatever weight he asks? From Crawford’s perspective, he can’t afford to lose against a full-strenth version of Spence because then he would miss out on the enormous payday he’d get fighting Canelo.

That fight doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, but Crawford believes it will, and he’s obviously not going to take chances of him being eliminated by Spence. Errol Too Big For 147 It’s pretty clear that Spence should have moved up to 154 or 160 long ago, but he’s been draining himself to stay at 147 for the sake of having more opportunities for bigger paydays. The only reason Spence avoided getting beaten is because of his amazing talent and incredible power. Even with him being weight drained for years, he still had enough ability to beat the guys he was fighting up until facing Crawford. Spence looked like he was fighting at 30% capacity last July when he drained down in weight to face then-WBO champion Crawford at 147. It’s rumored that Spence started camp overweight and had to take off nearly 50 lbs. Ultimately, it proved to be too much for Spence, who looked half-starved and not fully cogent on the night of the fight. Crawford capitalized on the drained version of Spence, beating him up just like any top 15 welterweight would have done that night.

Former Naoya Inoue Opponent Agrees With Floyd Mayweather: “He Needs Regular Drug Testing”

Floyd Mayweather ruffled a few feathers earlier this year, when he said that he couldn’t class Naoya Inoue as the pound for pound king until he has regular and strict drug testing around his fights.

Mayweather implored Inoue to have a fight in the United States, where he would be subjected to random blood and urine testing, to clear any doubts about his destructive rise through the weights.

And this week, former Inoue opponent Paul Butler has weighed in on Mayweather’s comments – and believes ‘Money’ could be on to something.

Butler was stopped by Inoue in eleven rounds at the Ariake Arena last December, when the pair locked horns for the undisputed bantamweight championship of the world.

And ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’ compared Inoue’s rise from light flyweight up to super bantamweight to Manny Pacquaio’s climb up the weights and stated “he needs testing,” when speaking to SecondsOut.

“Years before I boxed him [Inoue], I said he needs testing. What kid goes from 7 stone 10 to 8 stone 10, and he’s still putting people flat on their back. I don’t think it’s normal.

He’s very good at what he does, his skills are very good and his skills are unbelievable. But to be carrying that power?

It’s like what everyone said about Pacquiao years and years ago. How was he coming up from all the way down in the weights to guys like Margarito?

I think Floyd could be right, I think he does need to come to America for regular testing. But we’ll never know, so you can’t point the finger and say he’s a cheat, because he’s never been proven to be a cheat.”

Inoue’s most recent outing was perhaps the most impressive of his career thus far, stopping unified super bantamweight world champion Stephen Fulton at the same venue in which he dispatched of Butler.

His next bout is set to be an undisputed 122lbs clash with Marlon Tapales, which has been earmarked for the end of this year.

Having scored 27 knockouts in his 29 professional wins to date, Gervonta Davis rightly has a reputation as one of the most dangerous fighters in boxing, particularly amongst those competing in the lower weights.

Mario Barrios gave ‘Tank’ one his toughest tests back in 2021, lasting almost eleven full rounds with the three-weight world champion before being brutally stopped at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.

And in a recent interview with Manouk Akopyan, Barrios revealed that what makes Davis’ punches so dangerous is that they are often tough to see coming.

“He [Davis] can crack. They always say the most dangerous punches are the ones you don’t see, and I think that’s one of ‘Tank’s biggest advantages.”

“He hits you with shots that you don’t even see coming, I think that’s one of the things that make him so dangerous.”

“He was so quick in closing the distance and the range, so it was so hard to see the punches coming and that’s what made them so dangerous.”

Davis’ reputation as one of the most fearsome punchers in the sport was cemented this year when he landed knockout victories in his fights against Hector Luis Garcia and Ryan Garcia.

His momentum was curtailed somewhat by being sentenced to jail time for a hit and run case dating back to 2020.

However, now a free man and reportedly back in the gym, Davis is expected to return to the ring in early 2024.

Frank Warren says Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois would be more appealing for British fans than AJ vs Deontay Wilder

Frank Warren wants to see Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois clash and he believes it would be a ‘cracking fight’.

In his most recent fight, Dubois challenged Oleksandr Usyk for the unified WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world titles and the Brit was stopped in the ninth round.

But, Dubois and his promoter Warren think he deserved the victory after he dropped Usyk with a body shot in round five, but it was ruled a low-blow by the referee.

Warren has appealed the decision with the WBA and called for a rematch, but there is yet to be any further update on the situation.

And so, in the meantime, Warren wants to make a fight between Dubois and former two-time heavyweight world champion Joshua.

“A good fight I think would be [Dubois] and Joshua,” Warren told talkSPORT.

“Because both of them have been criticised recently about their desire.

“Joshua is a big puncher like Daniel and you look at his last few fights where you wanted to see a bit more out of him, but I think that’s a cracking fight.”

AJ is currently in talks to fight Wilder next in Saudi Arabia, but negotiations have stalled and promoter Eddie Hearn has said Joshua may fight in December against someone else first.

And when Warren was asked whether a clash with Dubois would be more appealing than Joshua vs Deontay Wilder, he replied: “I think with the British fans it would.

“I haven’t got a problem with Wilder vs Joshua but it ain’t happening. I’ve had that conversation many times, I don’t see that fight happening in Saudi at the moment at all.”

Warren went on to claim that Dubois could give Joshua a good fight, as he arguably gave Usyk his hardest test at heavyweight.

Before he continued: “[Joshua’s] got to fight somebody and if it isn’t Wilder then who is he going to fight?”

To finish, Warren made a prediction for a potential Joshua vs Dubois fight, saying: “I fancy my man, but we will see, that’s if they want to go down that road.”

Frank Bruno Predicts Tyson Fury-Anthony Joshua: “He’ll Teach Him A Lesson”

A Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua fight has been talked about for years, and at one point both parties even put pen to paper for the heavyweight showdown.

Back in 2021 Joshua had the WBA, WBO and IBF titles, whilst Fury, fresh from his knockout victory over Deontay Wilder, had the WBC belt and the two agreed terms for a historic undisputed clash which would have undoubtedly been the biggest fight ever in British boxing.

Speaking about the potential fight to Frank Bruno – himself a former heavyweight world champion – ‘The Gypsy King’ said:

“I’m really looking forward to a challenge. This might sound strange but I’ve been a professional for 13 years and I’ve been travelling the world to find somebody who can beat me basically and I haven’t found him so far in 32 fights.”

Bruno himself went on to give his thoughts on the showdown, declaring Fury would give his fellow Brit a ‘boxing lesson’.

“I don’t think Joshua should go anywhere near you because you’ll teach him a lesson you know, a boxing lesson.”

Unfortunately fans never got to see if Bruno’s prediction was right, as Fury was instead forced to face Wilder for a third time after the American won an arbitration battle. The trilogy fight ended the same way as their second contest, with Fury knocking out ‘The Bronze Bomber’ after an action packed heavyweight classic.

Fury went on to defend his title twice more, first against mandatory challenger, Dillian White, then another trilogy fight against ‘old-pal’ Derek Chisora.

Joshua on the other hand has since lost all his belts, suffering back-to-back defeats to former cruiserweight undisputed champion, Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury next faces MMA star, Francis Ngannou, in a crossover contest, whilst Joshua had looked set to take on Wilder in the new year, but talks have seemingly stalled with promoter Eddie Hearn admitting they might have to look for alternative opponents.

When Liv Morgan made veteran WWE star carry her on his shoulders; he struggled to do it

Back in 2019, Liv Morgan and Carmella were booked for an inter gender match during a WWE live show. They were partnered with Shelton Benjamin and R-Truth, respectively.

During the match, the superstars provided the fans with several spots of entertainment, but one has aged like fine wine through the years.

It so happens that at one point during the match, Carmella was on R-Truth’s shoulders, and he was able to hold her quite easily. However, Shelton Benjamin struggled to pick up Liv Morgan and place her on his shoulders.

Morgan was visibly frustrated at Benjamin’s efforts while Carmella and R-Truth broke character to crack up in laughter. In a twist of fate, as soon as Benjamin was finally able to lift Morgan onto his shoulders, Truth put Carmella down and the referee forced Benjamin to do the same. All that effort went in complete vain!

Maxxine Dupri shares insight about Liv Morgan

Maxxine Dupri is working with The Alpha Academy on the main roster. However, her call-up wasn’t as smooth as one expects.

During an interview with Fightful, Dupri revealed that WWE gave her only a couple of hours’ notice before the main roster call-up. Morgan took her under her wing and helped her out with make-up and catering, among other things.

“My first day, Liv Morgan took me under her wing and showed me catering, where to get my makeup done and how to prepare. It was a crazy, crazy, high-stress day, but I’m so grateful for it.”

Morgan’s last WWE match was against Chelsea Green and Sonya Deville on WWE RAW alongside Raquel Rodriguez. Morgan and Rodriguez had put the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles on the line, but were not able to successfully defend them.

The match ended with Green and Deville being crowned the new champions.

Gervonta Davis points out who is the only boxer who can beat him, and his answer is shocking

Gervonta Davis, the rising star in the world of boxing, has been attracting attention from his rivals who are eager to challenge him. While a potential fight with Haney may have to wait as he moves up to the 140 lbs weight class to take on Regis Prograis, Davis is focused on his own return to the ring before the end of the year. A rematch with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is currently the front-runner for his next fight. Davis is determined to continue his winning streak and prove himself as one of the best in the sport.

In the meantime, Stevenson has been struggling to find an opponent, but it appears he will face Edwin De Los Santos for the vacant WBC lightweight belt. The boxing world eagerly awaits these matchups, as Davis, Haney, and Stevenson all have their sights set on championship glory.

Gervonta Davis remains confident in his abilities and dismissive of his potential challengers. His recent legal troubles have not shaken his belief in himself, and he is determined to continue his rise to superstardom in the world of boxing.
