Many athletes often complain about the unnecessary exposure to the limelight which often takes away the simplicity from their lives at times. But, what would happen if a famous sportsperson is not recognized by the people? Well, former WTA legend Serena Williams had a one-of-a-kind moment yesterday in a Paris luxury restaurant when the staff behaved with her differently. While the former tennis legend addressed the issue on social media, one of the restaurant employees’ revelation fuelled the disappointment with a bizarre take on the matter.

Williams, who graced the Paris Olympic Opening Ceremony as one of the torch-bearers had an unexpected experience at a luxury hotel in Paris where she was “denied access” to the hotel’s rooftop restaurant. The former Olympic gold-medalist tennis star took her official X platform to share this incident with her followers and wrote, “Yikes @peninsulaparis I’ve been denied access to rooftop to eat in a empty restaurant of nicer places … but never with my kids.” Williams further added a hashtag for Olympics 2024 with another message “Always a first”  to showcase that this is the first time she is dealing with such experiences.

While Williams’ social media post stormed the platform, staff from the hotel revealed some inside details of what happened that day to Variety Magazine. Maxime Mannevy, a Peninsula rooftop employee mentioned that Williams arrived with another woman and a stroller and she was completely “unrecognizable” by the restaurant employees. Mannevy said, “when she came there were only two tables available and they had been reserved by clients of the hotel, My colleague didn’t recognize her and feels terrible, but he told her what he would have told any other client, which is to wait downstairs in the bar for a table to become available. That was absolutely nothing personal.”  However, Mannevy wasn’t present when Williams visited the restaurant. As per the report, the restaurant’s employees didn’t discriminate against the former WTA legend but treated her like any other guest.

While the Peninsula rooftop restaurant’s staff tried to handle the matter with care, Williams wasn’t very pleased when she was denied entry. What made her even angrier was that she was denied entry with her two kids, Olympia and Adira, which never happened before. Taking note of Williams’ anger, the restaurant has also apologized to the former tennis star.

Paris rooftop restaurant apologised to Serena Williams

The Peninsula rooftop restaurant issued an apology to Williams and dropped a statement. “In response to Mrs. Williams’ tweet, for whom we have the utmost admiration and respect, as we do for all our esteemed guests, we can only reiterate our deepest apologies for her perception of tonight’s situation, Today, August 5th, our rooftop bar was indeed fully booked, and the only unoccupied tables at that time belonged to our gourmet restaurant, L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully reserved tonight.”

From the statement, it seemed the restaurant took full credit for their mistake. However, at the same time, they mentioned treating Williams the same way as any other guest, which also seemed nonpartial from their side. The resultant further wrote, “She has always been, and will always be, more than welcome with her family at The Peninsula.”

Serena Williams’ recent encounter at the luxury restaurant was really unfortunate. However, now that the restaurant has issued an apology, we expect Williams to drop the disappointment and move on.

“He should have had 9 already. But …. Lemme be quiet,” commented Serena Williams on an Instagram post that talked about Toto Wolff wanting to give Lewis Hamilton another championship. And now, the tennis legend has come out to make a spectacular comment, as she’s left enchanted by Lewis Hamilton’s $8 million giant promo on his Instagram.

Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams have had a wonderful friendship going on for quite some years now. Whenever either one of them is asked about the other, they only have good things to say about each other. Their connection isn’t limited to sports, as both of them have been pictured together multiple times over the years at the Met Gala. Williams has now come out to show support for Hamilton’s latest promo.

The 7X champ recently featured on the infamous $8 million worth brand’s show ‘Hot Ones’, where the guest answers Sean Evan’s questions as they eat some spicy wings that go up in the spice level. Lewis Hamilton posted a snippet of the same on his Instagram, a sort of trailer to promote the episode. The caption to the post was, “Felt the burn, thanks for having me @hotones”. Guess what? Serena Williams was in the comment section of the post as she commented “Lol, I love you bro”.

The bond between Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton just keeps getting stronger every day. As Williams supported Hamilton’s Hot Ones promo, the 7X champ recently declared her his ‘favorite sporter outside motorsports’.

Serena Williams is Lewis Hamilton’s ‘Favorite Sporter Outside Motorsports’

Lewis Hamilton has been somewhat of a YouTube sensation. No, not because of his own YouTube channel but because he features on some of the other biggest channels. One such instance was when he was featured on GQ on YouTube for the video “Lewis Hamilton replies to Fans on the Internet”, where the Brit answers the questions posted on various social media platforms by making a new account.

One such question asked by a fan was about who Lewis Hamilton’s favorite sporter was outside of Motorsports. Without any hesitation, Hamilton replied, “Serena Williams”, as he continued, “Has to be Serena. She’s just a bundle of fun, great energy, a serious competitor, loves karaoke, like with a real passion, and just playing. She’s just a playful person.”

The world of tennis has witnessed many stories of legends walking in and going out with their shining portfolios of achievements. Out of all those, Venus and Serena Williams, along with their childhood coach Rick Macci and father Richard Williams, have always been a point of attraction for the fans. Bringing in another surprise from history, tennis Hall of Fame coach Rick Macci recently shared a tale that surprised fans.

With a story nothing less than a movie, the Williams family has always fascinated fans with tales starting from their practice sessions to their ultimate glory. Fans, unable to resist their obsession with every other detail of the most famous tennis family, always keep looking for stories of struggle, glory, and amusement. It is a lucky day for such fans because recently, Rick Macci took his chance to narrate a warming tale, rooting back to Compton.

In a heartwarming tale from the tennis world, Serena Williams’ childhood coach, Rick Macci, recently revealed an unexpected side of the legendary Richard Williams. While many tennis fans today know Richard as the father and coach of tennis icons Venus and Serena, there’s also a lesser-known side of his compassion that the legendary coach found worth sharing.

Rick Macci, on being asked about any tale from King Richard’s life, said, “There’s always balls everywhere because this was about repetition, repetition, repetition, and the girls hit tens of thousands of balls a day. That’s a lot of balls to be picked up.” Despite Venus and Serena Williams occasionally pitching in to collect the tennis balls, Richard decided to make a significant change one day.

As the 68-year-old coach continued the narration, he revealed how unexpectedly, a man appeared on the court, picking up the tennis balls. Macci was puzzled and asked, “Who’s this guy?” To which Richard responded, “You just hired him. You’re paying him $10 an hour.” Macci was surprised, thinking, “I’m hiring a guy to pick up balls? I’ll pick them up myself.”

But there was more to the story. Macci shocked fans as he revealed that Richard went to a “Mental health facility”, showing a rather unfamiliar side of him. He brought out someone who wanted to get out, be around his daughters, and have an opportunity to experience a different environment. This was the guy whom Richard appointed to pick the balls. As Macci winded up with the narration, he expressed, “This shows you the heart of this guy, just besides picking up $10 or whatever, he influenced someone’s life. One of the many reasons I love Richard Williams is because he was more about life lessons than tennis lessons.”

Rick Macci, being connected to the legendary tennis family for a long time, never failed to amaze fans with great stories from the lives of all three members of the Williams family. Besides him, another famous entity got in touch with them and presented a clear picture of their struggles. Will Smith, a famous name in Hollywood, played the role of Richard Williams’ role in the movie called ‘King Richard’.

As the film caught air and was streamed on several prominent platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Max, it happened to be the perfect medium for collectively exposing fans to several stories of struggle coming right from the minds of Serena Williams and other members of the family. The Williams family, having two of the most followed names in the tennis world, continues to stay a point of motivation, for the fans as well as the aspiring players.

After watching Simone Biles cheer for her man, fans are here to argue about her charming cheerleading skills. But this side of hers is only seen when she cheers for her NFL safety husband Jonathan Owens. Their romantic journey began in March 2020 after which Biles’s participation in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics presented the couple with their first challenge of a long-distance.

Now, since their wedding in April 2023, both athletes have been steadfast in their support of one another. The enthusiastic encouragement Owens gave Biles during her Tokyo events. And after her two-year break during Worlds, or by Biles flying to Wisconsin to cheer for Owens. Biles shared an update before the recent NFL match where the couple shared some wholesome moments.
Biles was present at the recent Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings game at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. She was seen supporting her husband on Sunday which ended in the Packers’ loss. However, just before the much-anticipated game, Biles shared an Instagram story of the dressed-up couple walking hand-in-hand in style.
Owens wore a Balenciaga electric blue logo jumper and Biles donned a custom-made jersey with Owens face. After returning from Worlds, Simone shared her desire on social media saying, “Can’t wait to dress up for game days and watch my man.” True to her words, her apparel had quirky printed details of green and yellow from a tagged brand @mvpbae.
While back, Biles attracted a lot of attention on the internet for an alleged reunion with pop star Taylor Swift. Since they both were seen cheering for their partners this NFL season. In an enjoyable and lighthearted moment, Hoda Kotb jokingly floated the possibility of Biles and Taylor Swift getting together, maybe at a Green Bay Packers vs. Kansas City Chiefs game, which Biles said she would be attending. This much-awaited Packers-Chiefs game is scheduled for December 3 at the Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The same field where the tension just rose for the Packers team after their recent match.
The Packers’ fourth straight loss, 24-10, suggested that they were going through a difficult time. They failed to capitalize on the momentum, which resulted in a down turnover. However, a potentially game-changing performance was made by rookie defensive lineman Karl Brooks, who blocked a field goal attempt.
Despite having many chances to win the game, the Packers’ offensive woes contributed to their setback. According to the Packers’ head coach LaFleur’s comments, rookie receiver Dontayvion Wicks’ drop close to the goal line was very significant. He said, “We had a hurtful drop going in with an opportunity to cut it to a one-possession game.”

The tennis champion has signed a two-book deal with Penguin Random House, saying it will be the first time she has paused and reflected on her remarkable career.

Serena Williams is set to publish two books, the first of which, a memoir, will take an “intimate” look at her childhood and remarkable tennis career.

The 42-year-old, regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, announced her retirement from the sport last year. “For so long, all I was focused on was winning, and I never sat down to look back and reflect on my life and career,” she said.

“Over the last year I’ve really enjoyed taking the time with my growing family to celebrate my accomplishments and explore my other passions,” the mother of two added. “I couldn’t be at a more perfect place to be able to take on such a personal, intimate project.”

Publisher Penguin Random House (PRH) said Williams’ forthcoming memoir, which does not yet have a title or publication date, will be an “open-hearted exploration of the experiences that have shaped her life”. The book will look at how the tennis star dealt with scrutiny and attacks in a predominantly white and male-dominated sport, as well as “devastating losses on and off the court”. Williams will also share her thoughts on “celebrating body diversity and expanding the confines of style in sports and pop culture” and “bringing awareness to maternal health disparities.” She will tell the story of meeting her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, and her experience of being a mother to her daughters Olympia and Adira.

The second book, also still untitled, will be an “inspirational” work, according to PRH, in which Williams will “offer rules for living that draw on her experiences as a philanthropist and advocate, and someone who has long sought to lift a diverse and emergent generation of young women whose aspirations are not confined to the court”.

Williams was born in Michigan but learned to play tennis in California and, from the age of nine, at an elite tennis academy in Florida. The story of the Williams sisters’ childhood was dramatised in the 2021 film King Richard, for which Will Smith won the best actor Oscar.

Williams turned professional aged 14 in 1995 and won her first grand slam title aged 17 at the 1999 US Open. Her tennis career spanned nearly three decades, earning a total of 23 major singles titles and $94,588,910 (£77,718,978) in prize money.

She and her sister, with author Hilary Beard, wrote a self-help book in 2005 titled Venus & Serena: Serving From the Hip: 10 Rules for Living, Loving and Winning, which was published in 2005. Williams published her first solo autobiography, Queen of the Court, in 2010. In 2022 she published a picture book, The Adventures of Qai Qai, illustrated by Yesenia Moises, based on a doll of her daughter’s that has become popular on social media.

A new ad campaign for the 2023 Lincoln Navigator, the brand’s flagship SUV, showcases the car’s brand new features and advanced driving technology, including Lincoln BlueCruise, a hands-free driver assist technology designed for driving on highways.

Lincoln decided to promote their new model with a music video, titled ‘Letting Go’, and enlisted the help of Williams and singer Cleo Sol. The 23-time Grand Slam champion, a long-time brand ambassador, teased the new ad on her Instagram.

In the music video, a pregnant Serena Williams is seen driving on the highway while imagining a a little girl learning to float face up in the sea with the guidanc eof an instructor. The tennis icon is then seen behind the wheel of the Lincoln Navigator slowly releasing her hand from the steering wheel, happening the same time the swim instructor leaves the girl’s hand.

The commercial was shot only weeks before Williams gave birth to her second daughter, Adira River, in August 2023.

Megan McKenzie, head of US marketing communications and marketing of Lincoln, spoke to Newsweek about the video and the brand’s collaboration with WIlliams.

“We are honored to be a part of this pivotal moment as she embarks on the journey as a family of four, and hope that the Navigator continues to provide sanctuary to her on and off the road,” McKenzie said. “Serena is an exceptional athlete, entrepreneur, and an authentic brand ambassador for Lincoln and our flagship Navigator SUV.”

Serena Williams has done very well for herself financially thanks to her outstanding career and different brand endorsements.

The tennis icon has a net worth of $270 million as of the year 2023. She has invested in 50-plus startups, with most of these investments targeted towards the welfare of people of color, women, and young visionaries.

The 42-year-old bid farewell to professional tennis last year after the US Open. She married Reddit Co-Founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017 soon after giving birth to her first child Olympia the same year. The couple welcomed their second daughter in August 2023.

Williams’ professional accolades speak for themselves. She has won 23 Grand Slam titles in women’s singles and has won four gold medals at the Olympics. The American is also the only player to win a career Gold Slam in both doubles and singles events.

Serena Williams is being recognized as a trailblazer in athletic fashion!

Williams has always pushed the fashion envelope on the court. From skirts to bespoke tennis outfits and Flo-Jo inspired get ups, she has been just as influential in athleisure as she has been in the game of tennis. That love of fashion led the tennis icon to launch her own brand, S by Serena, and put her front and center with other fashion trailblazers. And now after decades of making her mark, the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has announced that Serena Williams will receive the Fashion Icon Award, making history as the first athlete to ever receive the award, Hype beast reports.

“Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve used fashion as an outlet to express myself – fashion gave me the confidence to step on the court and own who I was, and where I knew I was going. My dream of owning my own brand, S by Serena, has become a reality and throughout my career I have been blessed to collaborate with the most established designers and the most exciting up-and-coming creatives,” said Williams in a statement.

The prestigious award will break down more barriers in the fashion world and for athletes looking to blaze trails in the arena. Williams said she’s proud to receive the honor and hopes that she’s helped to democratize fashion and make it more inclusive.

“I have had so much fun learning my style and allowing it to change as my life has evolved, but I’ve always held one thing true:”

“fashion is for everyone, no matter your size, race, or income,”

Williams explained.

CFDA chairman Thom Browne said Williams is more than deserving of the 2023 Fashion Icon Award, calling her “the ultimate example of individuality.”

Browne said, “Serena is one of the most inspiring people in the world… a true individual…she is an icon of the sports world…representing greatness on the highest level…bringing fashion to another world…for another audience…always staying true to herself, both on and off the court…a perfect combination of our worlds…the ultimate example of individuality in everything she does…Serena is a true fashion icon.”

CFDA firsts

The CFDA has been working to become more inclusive. In 2020, CaSandra Diggs made history as the first Black woman to lead the organization. And in 2021, Dapper Dan made history as the first Black designer to receive its Lifetime Achievement Award. Now Williams carries the historic torch this year, with Brooklyn designer Brandon Blackwood also named as one of this year’s nominees. Williams will receive the prestigious trophy at the 2023 CFDA Fashion Awards on November 6th. The event will be hosted by Sarah Jessica Parker and held at the American Museum of Natural History.

Serena Williams has joked that she “tries to be toxic” with her sister Venus Williams as she replied to a poignant social media video. The duo dominated tennis in their heyday, with Serena winning 23 Grand Slam trophies and Venus getting her hands on seven Major titles. And the pair also teamed up to win 14 Grand Slam doubles tournaments, with their last joint success coming in 2016 when they lifted the Wimbledon trophy.
Venus recently posted a video to her YouTube channel, where she discussed personal toxicity and how to confront it. “I’m going to put my hand up because I like gossip and a little bit of drama just as much as the next person,” the 43-year-old said.

“But I prefer to probably just view other people’s drama than actually have it in my life because it interferes with my productivity and it interferes with where I need to go. I just don’t have the time for it.

“So first of all, you might be enjoying the attention. When you have all this drama, then you’re getting more attention. It’s almost like when that little kid throws a fit for their parents because they want the attention and the attention that they get. And also it’s a way of controlling your environment too. So that attention will come and you thrive on it.”

Venus posted a clip of the video to her Instagram account to guide her fans towards it. And, her sister replied by posting: “I try to be toxic to you.” The comment was clearly made in jest as the sisters have maintained a close relationship throughout their adult life both on and off the court. And Venus would have more than likely laughed off the remark.

Serena won her final Grand Slam at the Australian Open in 2017. She eventually called time on her playing career following the 2022 US Open and paid tribute to her sister and the rest of her family.

“I wouldn’t be Serena if there wasn’t Venus, so thank you, Venus,” the 42-year-old said last year. “She’s the only reason that Serena Williams ever existed. Thank you daddy. I know you’re watching. Thanks mum. Oh my God. I thank everyone that’s here, that’s been on my side so many years, decades. Oh my gosh literally decades. But it all started with my parents. And they deserve everything. So I’m really grateful for them.”

Venus, meanwhile, is still playing on the WTA Tour and was knocked out in the first round at this year’s Wimbledon and US Open.

Serena Williams is one of the greatest sportspeople of all time and has accomplished great things on tennis court but the 2018 US Open final was not her finest hour.

The women’s 2018 US Open final saw Naomi Osaka crowned champion after defeating the iconic Serena Williams in the final.

However, the Japanese star’s first Grand Slam victory was overshadowed by the legend’s outbursts at chair umpire Carlos Ramos during the match. She was fined £13,500 for calling the official a “liar” and “thief” after receiving three code violations during the heated encounter.

The money came out of the $1.85 million prize money Williams received for finishing runner-up at Flushing Meadows five years ago. The former world number one was given the first code violation for ‘coaching’ from the box, which caused her initial frustrations.

She told the official: “It was not coaching. I do not cheat to win. I would rather lose. I just want you to know that.” After the 23-time Grand Slam champion smashed her racket in a fit of rage, Ramos gave her a point penalty. “I have never cheated in my life. You owe me an apology!,” the American yelled. “I have a daughter and I have not cheated in my life.”

After putting her hand around her opponent’s shoulder, Williams said afterward: “I felt bad because I’m crying and she’s crying and she’s just won – I’m not sure if they were happy tears or if they were sad tears because of the moment. I felt like this isn’t how I felt when I won my first grand slam, I was like I definitely don’t think I want her to feel like that. Maybe it was the mom in me feeling we have to pull ourselves together.”

In the media press conference later on, Williams addressed her heated exchanges with the chair umpire. “I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things,” she said. “I’m here fighting for women’s rights and for women’s equality and for all kinds of stuff.

“For me to say ‘thief’, and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark. He’s never taken a game from a man because they said ‘thief’. For me, it blows my mind. But I’m going to continue to fight for women.”

Whilst Williams has now retired from tennis, her astonishing US Open outburst will live long in the memory of one of the most infamous moments to take place in the iconic tournament.
