Mike Tyson secured his spot on Francis Ngannou’s coaching team four years before his fight with Tyson Fury became a reality.

The boxing legend invited Ngannou to appear on his Hotboxin podcast in 2019, and during their meeting ‘Iron Mike’ gave the former UFC heavyweight titleholder some tips.

Tyson’s advice was tailored around Fury who had previously called out ‘The Predator’, prompting a series of social media exchanges between two combat sports champions.

Now, Ngannou is a free agent after leaving the UFC earlier this year, and ‘The Gyspy King’ has opted to face him next after failing to secure fights with Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua.

The heavyweight duo will box over 10 rounds in Saudi Arabia on October 28.

Ngannou has begun preparing for his ring debut and one of the first things he has done is add the youngest heavyweight champion in history to his coaching team.

Last week, the Cameroonian knockout artist confirmed Tyson will train him for the next few months and explained why he is so delighted to be working with the 57-year-old.

“Bringing Mike Tyson into my training camp is one of the best decisions I can make to prepare for Tyson Fury,” Ngannou said.

“Mike Tyson is an idol of mine in the sport. His experience and boxing IQ will be important to honing my technique under his guidance to win this super fight.

“I’ve been wanting this fight for years and now that it’s here, I’m focused on fighting the greatest fight of my career and shocking the world on the most epic stage for the fans in Riyadh.

Francis “The Predator” Ngannou shared a few images to Instagram on Friday from the training session with Mike “Iron” Tyson in preparation for his October 28 boxing fight against Tyson “The Gypsy King” Fury.

Ngannou, 36, also made an appearance on First Take with Stephen A. Smith alongside 57-year-old Tyson, who made his support for the former UFC fighter more than evident.

“It’s no secret I back Ngannou 100 percent in this face-off of champions,” Tyson said. “He has one hard punch, and when it lands, it’s game over. I am looking forward to working with Ngannou and supporting his transition from the Octagon to the boxing ring.

“He isn’t a combat novice; he is a world champion. He knows how to compete when the bell rings, but the key will be combining his energy and combat skills into his punches and using his agility to move swiftly around the ring then delivering the knockout blow. We’re here to win.”

Ngannou announced Thursday that Tyson would be joining his camp as a trainer, and shared a video of himself squeezing a ton of sweat from a shirt, presumably the result of a training session with “Iron Mike.”

Francis Ngannou looks better than ever

One day later, Ngannou posted several photos of himself and his sparring partner inside the ring with Tyson leading the training session.

“Bringing Mike Tyson into my training camp is one of the best decisions I can make to prepare for Tyson Fury in the ring at this year’s Riyadh Season,” Ngannou said.

October 28th, the world will know who’s the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet.'”

Fury, 34, is undefeated in 34 contests and has knocked out 24 of his opponents, but Ngannou will likely be the toughest one yet

One of the fearest boxers of all time, Mike Tyson, has admitted he has a hero in the ‘sweet science, but who is it?

2023 is the year of boxing. Quite a few great fights have already taken place and there are still some others that are scheduled to be held in the upcoming months.

Terence Crawford has been mentioned in all the headlines since he dismantled Errol Spence Jr. last Saturday in a fight that was expected to be way closer.

The Omaha-bred superstar became the undisputed welterweight king and the pound-for-pound No. 1 fighter after stopping The Truth in the ninth round via TKO.

Before the fight, Tyson predicted that Crawford would emerge victorious thanks to his boxing IQ and versatile, counterpunching style, which ended up giving Spence Jr. plenty of problems.

Mike Tyson has a hero

Crawford probably is on Mike Tyson’s list of favorite boxers, especially after his last display of skills and power at the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas.

However, Iron Mike has revealed that Jake Paul is his hero, praising the Cleveland native’s dedication and sacrifice since he started his boxing career.

“He’s not a villain, he’s an anti-hero, not a villain. Listen, he did more for boxing than some champions did. I’m a fan of people that know how to put asses in the seats. Those are the guys I look up to”, Tyson said on Jake Paul’s Untold Netflix documentary series.

“You’re entertaining us. You’re the champ. You’re my hero”, he added.

Tyson considers that Paul is “saving boxing” by trying to make the sport more popular, considering the millions of followers that Paul has on social media.

But it’s not the first time that Tyson praises Paul’s presence in the boxing world. In 2020, during a press conference for his exhibition bout against Roy Jones Jr., he already had good words for Jake.

“Now we got these YouTubers, 20 million subscribers? Boxing is coming back thanks to these YouTube boxers”, he said then.

Paul will face UFC legend Nate Diaz on Saturday in a 10-round boxing clash. The Problem Child will be looking to bounce back from his last and only defeat in his young career to Tommy Fury, who got his hand raised via split decision.

It was weird, and we came here and it was totally different. We came here and everybody was going out. You go to the lake, there’s people on boats and my Kids jump in the water and they are playing and they’re like ‘we wanna live here’ and I was like I will fuc*king move here, right now. And my wife agreed and we said let’s go, lets try. It was just a different feel.

Ngannou makes his boxing debut against heavyweight champion Fury in October and Tyson has offered to help the former UFC star train for the fight

Boxing legend Mike Tyson has offered his services to Francis Ngannou ahead of his fight against Tyson Fury.

Former UFC heavyweight champion Ngannou makes his ring debut on October 29 against ‘The Gypsy King’ in Saudi Arabia. The fight will take place over 10 three-minute rounds and will go on both men’s professional records. Ngannou will secure a career-high payday for the crossover bout after earning just $600,000 for his final UFC title defence.

‘Iron Mike’ was recently asked by ES News about the possibility of training Ngannou for the fight, to which he replied: ” I would like to do that, yeah. That would be cool. I like that.” Tyson also refused to count out Ngannou’s chances of beating Fury despite the massive experience gap between them, adding: “I think anything is possible. He has a hard punch.”

It’s unclear if Ngannou will prepare to fight Fury at his MMA gym, Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas, or search for a traditional boxing gym to train at. ‘The Predator’ has called on Tyson to train him and also thinks the heavyweight legend’s old rival Lennox Lewis could be of great help.

“I think getting some advice or some training from Mike Tyson would be good,” he told TMZ Sports. “I also think of somebody like Lennox Lewis who could be good. I love his boxing style, very basic but very sharp and efficient. One-two, all that stuff, classic but very good. I love stuff like that. One of those guys. We are definitely reaching out.”

Fury’s heavyweight title will not be on the line in the fight as Ngannou is not ranked by the WBC. Ngannou split with the UFC in January in the hopes of securing a big payday, but his chances of doing so looked slim when Fury was expected to face fellow heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. But the undisputed fight fell through yet again and Ngannou’s gamble on himself paid off.

“It is a dream come true, we have been talking about this fight for over three years. Since before the pandemic, which is insane. Now it’s happening, so you can imagine how it feels to wait for something this long and to go through what I’ve been through to get here. This fight couldn’t have happened if I didn’t decide to take some initiative and decide to take my destiny,” he added.

“I had to make some tough decisions in my life and stand up for myself in order to get here. [Fury] better get ready for October 28 because if he is not taking this serious, I think he might be surprised and could regret it. I am coming for it all, this is my moment and what I’ve been waiting for.”
