Sean O’Malley has made quite the guarantee in regards to a potential fight against boxing champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis.

Davis’ stock has been rising in the boxing world. That star power grew further with his seventh-round knockout victory over Ryan Garcia back in April. While reports have been swirling about a possible rematch between “Tank” and Issac Cruz, O’Malley has thrown his name out there as a potential opponent for Davis sometime down the road.

Davis’ trainer, Kenny Ellis, told ES News that his fighter would whoop O’Malley in the first round. Ellis’ comments were in response to the “Sugar” show claiming he would KO “Tank” in a boxing match. Ellis also said MMA fighters don’t know how to perfect punches the way boxers do.

O’Malley has responded to Ellis on the “TimboSugarShow,” promising that the fight with Gervonta Davis will happen at some point.

“I do know how to f****** punch, by the way if you guys didn’t know that,” O’Malley said. “I got a decent right hand, I got a pretty good left hand. Dude, I f****** rocked Petr [Yan] with a left hand, dropped Petr with my right hand, then dropped Aljo [Aljamain Sterling] with my right hand. So, I can throw a punch or two. That fight’s gonna happen some day, I swear to f****** God, dude. When I have these feelings, like these true deep feelings, like I’m gonna be world champ, I would tell anybody, look them in the eyes and tell them that ’cause I knew it was gonna happen. I have that same feeling about fighting Gervonta. Like, it’s gonna f****** happen.”

O’Malley went on to say that he can picture the fight happening inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. “Sugar’s” coach Tim Welch opened the possibility that “Tank” may not take O’Malley seriously, which will lead to him hitting the canvas.

Terence Crawford has doubled down on the promise that he would remain in the welterweight division if Gervonta Davis wanted to move up and fight him.

Following a career-best victory over Errol Spence Jr to become undisputed at 147lbs, ‘Bud’ Crawford is readying a move up to super-welterweight to win titles in one last division before he hangs up the gloves.

Despite those plans seeming solid, he has been consistently asked about the potential of a fight with lightweight, ‘Tank’ Davis. The questions stem from a clip on social media in which the smaller man claims he could stop Crawford quickly.

Despite beliefs from ‘Tank’s team that the narrative is ‘dumb’ and that he was initially joking in the recording, the undisputed welterweight champion doesn’t seem to be playing around with his invite.

He told Sway that he would be there waiting should the Baltimore native ‘want to dare to be great.’

“Yeah, if he wanna dare to be great and be like all the other fighters that’s moving up two weight classes. Tell him come up here. He said I got a glass chin. So tell him come and touch it. At 147. I make 147 for him.”

“Then what the people gonna say? ‘Oh he’s beatin’ up on little guys.’”

‘Tank’ has also played a part in this stellar year for boxing, having beaten previously-undefeated Ryan Garcia three months before the Spence-Crawford fight.

He’s now looking at a return to the ring towards the end of the year and, despite the buzz around a Crawford fight, will likely be at 135lbs where he continues to move towards world titles.

Gervonta Davis is currently in a Baltimore prison for violating the terms of his three-month house-arrest sentence for being involved in a car crash back in 2020, and while he was in prison, robbers took the opportunity to enter his Florida mansion and rob the boxer.

According to the Baltimore Banner newspaper, he was supposed to be staying at his trainer Calvin Ford’s home in Baltimore but had been staying at the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore. After rejecting Ford’s house, his idea was to move into the luxury penthouse he had just purchased to spend his sentence.

Gervonta Davis was supposed to be serving a three-month stint of house arrest in his trainer’s house, however, Tank made a case about the conditions of the property he was to remain, saying that just his security detail would not even fit in the room where he was appointed.

Let alone his children who needed more space to be with his father and have recreational activities while he is under house arrest.

The fact is that, according to Michael Tomko, Davis’ lawyer, the room in Ford’s house could not accommodate the boxer’s security detail for 24 hours.

Gervonta’s lawyer got in front of the train and took the blame for his client’s behavior, although the Tank is already in prison, his legal counsel addressed the media saying “Blame it on me, because he did nothing wrong. He did what I asked him to do. […] I don’t think Mr. Davis did anything wrong, except listen to his lawyer.”

Tank’s bad luck adds Insult to injury

Gervonta’s lawyer made another statement to say that ‘Tank’s’ mansion in Parkland, Florida, had been burglarized and ransacked and that “Personal belongings including prized boxing regalia and several collector automobiles were taken. Furthermore, the haul is said to be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars”.

Terence Crawford is unfazed by Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis picking against him in the upcoming four-belt welterweight clash with Errol Spence Jr.

It’s taken years for the two undefeated and elite operators to put pen to paper, and excitement for the fight – which is just one week away – is at fever pitch.

In a clip from before it was even official, Davis expressed extreme confidence in a Spence victory.

“Errol. I know for sure. Imagine we in a gun fight, right? And I got a metal shield, and the opposite person got a glass shield. Who gonna come out on top?”

“[It doesn’t matter] how much he run around, once them hands get on him it’s gonna slow him down … Ain’t no ‘if’ – he gonna touch him.”

Despite the general consensus being the margins are razor thin, ‘Tank’s pick goes against many in the sport, as well as the bookmakers, who have Crawford edging into the favourite spot ever so slightly.

What Davis said was put to Crawford at his open workout, whose response shows that he would rather prove him wrong in the ring than respond now.

“We gonna see. We gonna see.”

On a potential future fight between the pair, Crawford – who started his career at 135 and moved through 140 to welterweight now – said ‘Tank’ wouldn’t be able to make the same jump.

Crawford and Spence face off on July 29 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The winner will leave the ring as undisputed welterweight champion and with a strong claim to being the best active fighter in the world
