Anthony Joshua branded ‘mentally broken’ as forgotten heavyweight champion makes bold prediction about Deontay Wilder fight

Mahmoud Charr believes Anthony Joshua is a “mentally broken” fighter and is just one loss away from calling time on his boxing career.

Charr is the current WBA “regular” heavyweight champion who hasn’t fought this year, and he is not impressed by what he’s seen from AJ recently.

AJ has picked up routine wins over Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin in 2023 as he works his way back into title contention after suffering consecutive defeats against WBO, IBF, and WBA “super” champion Oleksandr Usyk.

Charr believes Joshua’s issues date back to his first career loss which came at the hands of massive underdog Andy Ruiz in 2019.

The British fighter avenged the defeat but hasn’t looked the same since.

“Right now, Joshua is mentally broken, you can see that,” Charr told Seconds Out.

“Against Andy Ruiz Jr when he got first knocked out, two losses against Usyk, he looks broken. He needs time. He is not ready for [Tyson] Fury.”

Joshua is currently in talks to fight Wilder. However, negotiations for the heavyweight blockbuster have recently hit a snag, and boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is looking for a new host site.

Charr thinks the fight falling through could be a blessing in disguise for the British fan favoruite who he thinks could be knocked into retirement by Wilder, Tyson Fury, or even himself.

“[Joshua] needs five or six easy fights to get back to himself,” he added.

“If he fights Wilder next, he can stop boxing after that. He is not ready for Wilder or Fury and not ready for me.”

Charr was heavily linked to a fight with Fury last year, but ‘The Gypsy King’ opted to face Derek Chisora in a trilogy bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium instead.

While a clash with Wilder remains the priority, Hearn recently claimed his star client may take a stay-busy fight in December if talks drag on much longer.

Perhaps Charr will get the call to defend his belt against Joshua later this year.

Several WWE Superstars have reacted to JoJo Offerman’s heartbreaking message to her late fiancé, Bray Wyatt, on Instagram Wyatt and JoJo reportedly started dating nearly six years ago. The couple welcomed their first child in 2019. A year later, they had their second. Last year, The Eater of Worlds and the former ring announcer announced their engagement. However, Wyatt tragically passed away last month, aged only 36.

Today, JoJo finally broke her silence to address Wyatt’s passing. The 29-year-old posted a heartbreaking message to her late fiancé, saying she will love him forever.

Many WWE Superstars have reacted to JoJo’s post. While Bayley told JoJo, “We love you so much,” and Natalya did the same, Raquel Rodriguez commented with a single word, “Beautiful ❤️.” Liv Morgan, Charlotte Flair, Bianca Belair, and Emma commented on the post with heart emojis. Meanwhile, Cathy Kelley sent a message of support to the former ring announcer.

“Love you and the babies so much!! here for you always Jo,” Kelley wrote.

Samantha Irvin also sent a heartfelt message to JoJo, telling her she would never stop praying for her.

“My sister. On my mind incessantly. You two are two of the most beautiful, kind, talented people to ever Grace the Earth. I love you and I’m with you ALWAYS. I’ll never stop praying for your continued passion, peace, purpose. With the strongest, most brilliant angel guiding you. WWE Raw Results: Winners And Grades As Vince McMahon Era Ends

WWE Raw marked the end of a couple of eras.

First, tonight’s Raw is the end of the annual pre-football era. Monday night marked the return of Monday Night Football with a star-studded premiere featuring Aaron Rodgers and the new-look New York Jets vs. perennial contender Buffalo Bills. After a bounce back year for Raw ratings, Raw’s viewership will need to hold on for dear life.

Raw also marks the final broadcast under the Vince McMahon era as we know it. WWE’s merger with Endeavor is expected to finalize tomorrow, giving way to a new era where WWE and UFC will exist under the same umbrella as TKO Group Holdings. McMahon will still oversee WWE as its Chairman.

Earlier this year, Endeavor acquired WWE as part of a blockbuster $21 billion deal.

Matt Riddle knows something about working with both WWE and UFC, and the troubled Raw star once again finds himself mired in controversy. Riddle was reportedly pulled from tonight’s Raw after an incident at the JFK airport where the former United States and tag team champion claimed he was sexually assaulted by a Port Authority police officer. His absence, however, is said to be related to illness. Riddle’s claim triggered an investigation, and Riddle—who recently returned to WWE following a stint in rehab—will likely be off WWE television for the time being.

The Raw main event saw the return of Nia Jax, who helped Rhea Ripley retain the WWE Women’s World Championship. Jax also attacked Ripley for good measure.

Last week’s broadcast of Raw garnered 1.7 million viewers.

Jey Uso has new theme music, where he sings the lyrics, but it’s very similar to the Usos’ old theme music.

Main Event Jey received a hero’s welcome with fans waving their hands up and down, vibing to his music and entrance. LA Knight is the hottest star in the business right now, but Main Event Jey is the People’s Champion.

Dominik Mysterio was booed out of Norfolk, and when he gave the mic back to Damian Priest, they finally settled down.

In the latest version of “Can they co-exist,” Kevin Owens and Jey Uso teamed together in a (long) match against the Judgment Day. They did not, in fact, co-exist as Jey accidentally super kicked Owens, leading to a loss.

Judgment Day vs. Jey Uso and Kevin Owens Grade: B

The Miz Def. Akira Tozawa

Staunch LA Knight supporter Wade Barrett described Miz as being in the throes of a manic episode.

This was the rare Miz squash match, with Miz commanding all of the offense, including three Skull Crushing Finales.

GUNTHER IC Championship Celebration

IMPERIUM all had black suits, with GUNTHER going for the Men in Black look. GUNTHER received a podium and pyro as well.

Chad Gable received a loud pop when he interrupted GUNTHER. Hopefully WWE can make a new star in Chad Gable by having him dethrone GUNTHER, unlike how AEW returned to the status quo when Jon Moxley beat Orange Cassidy.

The segment ended with Chad Gable vowing to have his daughter leave with a smile on her face, only for IMPERIUM to maul Gable. Thankfully, Otis made the save. Surprisingly, Tommaso Ciampa evened the odds.

GUNTHER IC Title Celebration Grade: A

Drew McIntyre def. Xavier Woods

This was a soft launch of Drew McIntyre’s heel turn, though he did work the match as a babyface.

Drew McIntyre’s chop game is underappreciated. He had a series of loud chops on poor Woods.

After McIntyre’s inevitable win, Heel Drew milked the celebration by waiting extra long before the referee raised his hand.

McIntyre vs. Woods Grade: B+

Cody Rhodes Appears Live

Cody Rhodes opened his promo by saying he was going to talk about Main Event Jey Uso, only to be interrupted by Dominik Mysterio.

Mysterio was accompanied by Judgment Day member (?) JD McDonagh.

Even though this was the second time Dominik Mysterio appeared on WWE TV, fans maintained the same energy as the first segment while booing him to smitheens.

Nobody was happier to see Dominik Mysterio take Cross Rhodes than Michael Cole.

Cody Rhodes Segment Grade: B

Shayna Baszler Def. Chelsea Green

This was exactly what you thought it would be based on Shayna Baszler’s dominant character and Chelsea Green’s chicken heel character. Baszler ran through Chelsea Green.

Baszler’s new finisher is called the “Exterminatus,” (the Piper’s Pit) which is an ode to Ronda Rousey.

Zoey Stark came to Baszler’s aid, and that tag team just makes sense.

Shayna Baszler vs. Chelsea Green Grade: C

Seth Rollins Calls Out Shinsuke Nakamura

Seth Rollins said he used to not know whom he was. Now, he argues—while wearing a Randy Savage Halloween costume—he gets to be himself.

As Rollins waited for Nakamura, Shinsuke attacked Ricochet backstage.

Mike Tyson made 31-0 ‘scared dead man walking poop his pants’

Mike Tyson is the most feared heavyweight ever for a reason – one explained by way of an opponent he wiped out in seconds.

Tyson had his foe waiting to be beaten and walking to the ring defeated when he became the world’s undisputed champion.

Former two-weight world and Olympic champion Michael Spinks had no chance, no matter how he felt against Tyson in 1988.

That’s the view of Tyson’s former trainer Teddy Atlas.

Firstly, Spinks went down in 91 seconds against Tyson in an undisputed heavyweight title clash, three years after moving up from 175 pounds.

During his spell at the lower weight, the one-time super-middleweight claimed all the belts on offer. Spinks was widely recognized as one of the best light heavyweights of his generation.

In addition, back-to-back underdog wins over the great Larry Holmes cemented him as a fully-fledged top-division operator.

But it was the Tyson fight where question marks hung over ‘Jinx’ as the then 31-0 star was bludgeoned in just over a minute and a half.

Many thought Spinks had already lost on his way to the ring as he looked petrified at what was to come. Others just thought that mentally, Spinks was spent due to the fight’s significance.

As the Convention Hall in Atlantic City held its breath, Tyson enhanced his legacy with an unbelievable performance.

The trainer that night, Kevin Rooney, had replaced Teddy Atlas a few years prior. But Atlas followed the career of Mike Tyson closely over the next two decades.

Atlas took time out during one of his recent podcasts to shield Spinks from unwarranted criticism.

“People thought [Michael Spinks] was a dead man walking. That’s the problem,” pointed out Atlas. “They dismissed everything, and I get people are people.

“They said that he was intimidated. He was scared to death and pooping his pants. In addition, he was frozen like a deer in headlights.

“He was a guy waiting to go to the guillotine. To put his head on the block and let’s get it over with.

“First of all, that’s not fair because nobody in his mind and his body could verify that – number one.

“Number two – looking at it from the point I am, I’m the guy who has been as critical as anyone about Tyson and his shortcomings. But at the same time, I have pointed out that he’s one of the great punchers in the sport’s history and could punch with either hand.

“So I give him his due. I point out the things that I believe in my position should be pointed out when that’s what people are asking me to do.

“They’re not asking me to do a show based on being liked. It’s not about being liked. It’s not about giving your opinion on how you see the facts, eliminating everything else. So, I give him all his credit.

“Now, having said that I will say again: when you touch down with Spinks, many people dismissed the fight like the guy didn’t show up, like nobody in the ring with him (Tyson). He was like it was a hologram. He was a ghost. There was nobody there.

“That’s what everyone assumes. One guy says it, and everybody follows. They forget the guy was an Olympic gold medalist on the most outstanding Olympic Team ever in 1976.

“He’s one of the greatest unified light heavyweight champions ever. “I am going to make a correlation here, okay? I am not trying to defend anybody. I’m not trying to attack anyone. Furthermore, I’m just trying to make a case (for Spinks),” he added.

Bob Arum Says One Man Is Standing In The Way Of Gervonta Davis-Shakur Stevenson Fight

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum believes that the stumbling block in a potential fight between the self-proclaimed ‘face of boxing’, Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis, and two-division world champion, Shakur Stevenson, is just one man – and it’s neither of the fighters.

The lightweight division has arguably the most talent in the sport these days, with the likes of Davis and Stevenson joined by Devin Haney and Vasily Lomachenko. Despite that, not many fights between the top dogs have materialised.

With Haney set to move up super-lightweight and vacate at least one of his world titles, fans are hopeful that the three remaining superstars in the division will soon fight one another to crown a new 135lbs king.

In an interview with Seconds Out, Arum explained that the only reason that ‘Tank’-Stevenson hasn’t happened yet is due to Floyd Mayweather Jr, who has promoted and advised Davis for a large part of his career, even despite a public fallout earlier this year.

“Ask Floyd [why it isn’t happening].

I’m sure that Shakur would jump at the chance of fighting Tank because it is a big money fight, but it takes two to make a fight.”

For now, Shakur Stevenson’s next fight will be for the WBC Lightweight World Title, although whom his opponent will be isn’t as clear.

First, Lomachenko reportedly turned down a title bout with the Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallist, but Frank Martin stepped up to the plate and seemed poised to fight the unbeaten 26-year-old, headlining a Thursday night card in Las Vegas this November.

Martin has now been pulled from the fight, leaving Stevenson without an opponent for his vacant title challenge. As of now, Edwin De Los Santos is rumoured to be the favourite to meet Stevenson in the ring, but William Zepeda may also be considered should he win this month.

Eddie Hearn Waiting/Hoping Contract For Joshua Vs. Wilder From Saudis

Eddie Hearn says he’s in “limbo,” waiting for the contract from the Saudis that might never come for the Anthony Joshua vs. Deontay Wilder fight. Surprisingly, Hearn hasn’t given a drop-dead timeline for when he’ll move on, but it could be soon, judging from how flustered he is.

Hearn says the Joshua-Wilder fight could occur in Las Vegas or the UK and will do well in those locations. But obviously, the money that AJ would receive fighting there would be nowhere near what the Saudis would have paid. Have The Saudis Changed Their Mind? Hearn doesn’t explain why the Saudis have delayed sending the contract. Still, it’s reasonable to assume that they’re no longer enamored with the idea of paying big money for the Joshua vs. Wilder fight after watching AJ’s recent performances against Robert Helenious & Jermaine Franklin.

Joshua’s last six fights: Robert Helenius Jermaine Franklin Oleksandr Usyk – rematch Oleksandr Usyk Kubrat Pulev Andy Ruiz – rematch

The way Joshua has looked in his last six fights, gunshy and afraid to pull the trigger on his punches, you can’t blame the Saudis if they choose not to stage the Joshua-Wilder fight in their country. There are a ton of fighters that show more fire than Joshua, who looks like a fragmented, broken shell of the guy he’d been when he turned pro in 2013. “Until we receive a contract to do that fight, it’s not happening. Now does that come this week, does it come in two months, does it come at, all I don’t know,” said Hearn to Boxing Social about the contract he’s waiting for from the Saudis for the Joshua vs. Wilder fight.

Joshua Not Limited To Saudi Arabia It would be a good idea for Hearn to stop waiting for the Saudis and move on with Joshua to stage that fight in Vegas or London. If Hearn truly believes that a fight with Tyson Fury will happen for Joshua next year, he should avoid matching him against Wilder and focus on another journeyman-level opponent to ensure he doesn’t lose.

Joshua took a lot of punishment in his last fight against 39-year-old Robert Helenius, and it’s clear from watching that contest that Wilder will mow him down. “So we’re a little bit in limbo, obviously. We were working with people we’ve worked with, and when they tell us it’s done, generally it’s done, but on this occasion, it’s not yet done.

“We’re not limited to doing that in Saudi Arabia or the Middle East,” said Hearn. Instead of Hearn talking about Joshua not being limited to Saudi Arabia, he needs to show some pride and move on already.

Ryan Garcia hails Sean Strickland’s boxing skills as new champion earns Floyd Mayweather comparisons after UFC 293 upset

Boxing superstar Ryan Garcia was one of the many fight fans praising Sean Strickland after he dethroned Israel Adesanya at UFC 293.

The unfancied American dropped ‘Stylebender’ early before outpointing him over five rounds to become the new UFC middleweight champion in Sydney, Australia on Sunday morning.

Garcia was quick to react to what Joe Rogan believes is one of the biggest upsets in the history of MMA by heaping praise on Strickland’s boxing skills.

“Sean Strickland just beat Izzy,” he tweeted after UFC 293.

“Best defensive I seen In a UFC fight.”

“CRAZY BIGGEST UPSET.”

Strickland recently adopted a fighting stance similar to the Philly Shell. The style is often associated with boxing legend Floyd Mayweather who is known for his impregnable defence.

‘Money’ was never knocked down during his perfect professional career which he ended with a 50-0 record following his tenth-round TKO win over UFC icon Conor McGregor in 2017.

After watching Strickland put on a clinic against arguably the greatest middleweight in UFC history, MMA fans took to social media to point out the similarities between him and Mayweather.

One person tweeted: “Sean Strickland just turned into Floyd Mayweather for 5 rounds.”

Another wrote: “Sean Strickland just did something that I’m not sure we have ever seen before Beating Izzy is one thing but looking like prime Mayweather and dominating one of the best stand up fighters ever for 5 straight rounds is truly insane.”

Someone else added: “Strickland looked like f****** Mayweather out there hiding behind his shoulder and rolling off punches lmao. 100+ missed punches by Izzy who’s known to be a pretty damn good striker.”

A fourth person asked: “How did Strickland make the Mayweather defense work in MMA?????”

MMA and boxing broadcaster Adam Catterall made the comparison too, writing: “Of all the outcomes, Sean Strickland strutting about Sydney like prime money Mayweather is not what I foresaw! Wow.”

UFC president Dana White is keen to book a rematch between Strickland and Adesanya, but number one middleweight contender Dricus du Plessis is waiting in the wings for a title shot.

The new champion is happy to face all challengers and fans will just be excited to see MMA’s Mayweather defend his belt early in 2024.

WWE Raw results 09/11/23: Stunning return helps Rhea hold off Raquel

Let’s get one thing straight right off the bat: Rhea Ripley certainly doesn’t need help from Dominik Mysterio to win her matches. She’s proven that numerous times on her way to becoming Women’s World Championship. That said, it’s fair to wonder if it’ll get in her head looking ringside tonight during WWE Raw in Norfolk and not seeing Dirty Dom there to support her.

Ripley can use any edge she can get because Raquel Rodriguez has been a determined challenger who is a legit threat to dethrone her. Rodriguez is powerful enough to stand her ground against Ripley, and she’s motivated by what the champ did to both her and tag team partner Liv Morgan, so she’s not going to stop.

All we’re saying is that with Dom barred from ringside tonight for the title rematch, Ripley might not have the same comfort level she usually does. And given the way she’s put the rest of The Judgment Day on notice if they didn’t win gold, it would be ironic indeed if she loses hers first.

Cody Rhodes is going to talk about something on Raw this evening as well, and while we fully expect that he’ll ask us what we want to talk about, we feel just as sure that he already has something in mind. We’re just not exactly sure what that might be, and if it still has to do with recently arrived Jey Uso.

Plus, Imperium is going to throw a championship celebration for Gunther, which he deserves as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time. But has he truly beaten everyone worth beating, or will someone new choose this occasion to declare themselves next in line to try to topple the Ring General?

Jey Uso, Kevin Owens agree to team to fight common foes in The Judgment Day

After his warm welcome calms down a bit, Jey says it feels good to be out of the Bloodline and on his own, and specifically to be on Monday Night Raw. Before he can say more, Kevin Owens’ music hits, bringing KO slowly down the aisle to the ring.

The fans chant for him as well, but he’s just staring down Jey. Owens says he’s been exactly where Uso is and what he’s going through, trying to make up for bad things he did to good people.

But even though a lot of people on the roster don’t want him there, Owens thinks Jey can earn his respect … but he’ll have a lot of work to do.

In turn, that brings out The Judgment Day, with Finn Balor saying Jey has nothing to prove to them. Damian Priest adds that the door is open for him whenever he wants to walk through it, just like Dominik Mysterio did after refusing them a thousand times.

Owens is unimpressed and willing to fight the whole Judgment Day alone, but Uso offers to team with KO to face the heels. KO pauses but says “let’s do it,” and a brawl breaks out. Owens and Uso clear the ring, but it seems we’ve got ourselves a match.

Liv Morgan expected to return to the ring after Rhea Ripley fight

LIV Morgan might be on her way back to the ring after being sidelined since June.

The star is scheduled to meet with doctors in Birmingham, Alabama, next week for a follow-up test, per Bleacher Report.

Morgan hasn’t been in the ring since being attacked by Rhea Ripley prior to their scheduled bout on the July 24 broadcast of Raw.

The Australian used a steel chair to assault her opponent’s left arm, thereby writing her off the show.

There is no particular date for when she might return.

Tune in to WWE SmackDown next Friday on Fox to see who comes out victorious.

Former wrestler shares locker room story about The Rock

Dwayne The Rock Johnson’s lunchbox was allegedly smeared with human feces by his rivals in an attempt to break the rising star’s confidence.

Speaking on the Busted Open Radio, ‘The World’s Strongest Man’ Henry said: “Me and The Rock, we always had our locker right next to each other.

“I came in and saw people laughing and giggling and running away from where our lockers were.

“I saw his box was open. I grabbed the box and was going to close it and I looked in it and there was s**t in it.

“Somebody s**t in his food box, so of course, I have to dispose of this and tell him, ‘Hey man, don’t leave your food in here’.

“They were envious of us new guys coming in.”

Turnbuckle, explained

In boxing and professional wrestling rings, turnbuckles are frequently used to tighten the ring ropes since they connect the ring ropes to the ring posts.

Roy Jones Jr Brands Knockout Artist ‘The Modern Day Mike Tyson’

Roy Jones Jr has given a current fighter an accolade not many receive – a comparison to one of the most feared and infamous men to ever lace up in Mike Tyson.

‘Iron’ Mike was undisputed heavyweight champion in his heyday, a subsequent prison stint interfering with his prime years thereafter. When he was firing on all cylinders, fans would be hard pushed to find a more ferocious and determined power puncher.

His legacy in the sport is not only one of title achievement, but worldwide notoriety and a different level of fame. It’s a blueprint many today try and follow, but few, if any, have been able.

Speaking to Sporting Post about the most entertaining current fighters, Jones Jr – himself a former heavyweight champion – looked to the lightweight division and highlighted Gervonta Davis as a modern-day Mike.

“Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson are entertaining but Tank is the most entertaining guy because he has that Mike Tyson level of entertainment, he’s very powerful and anything can happen at any time, inside or outside the ring. Tank is a modern day Mike Tyson.”

‘Tank’ certainly has the power to strike fear into an opponent, with 27 of his 29 wins coming via knockout. His most recent victory – a seventh round body shot stoppage of Ryan Garcia – has propelled his fame to new heights.

Unfortunately for him, another comparison with Tyson is that he recently served jail time, although it was months rather than years and he is now prepping for a ring return.

Jones went on to include welterweight Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis and heavyweight Tyson Fury in his list of the most entertaining fighters alongside Davis, Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson.

“Haney and Shakur are both really top level boxers and I like Jaron Ennis, those are my top four right now as far as the entertainment factor goes. You’re getting something when they box and with Jaron you’re going to get that old Roy Jones flavour too. Tyson Fury is another guy that gives you that.”

Davis is expected back out towards the end of the year, perhaps in a rematch with Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz. As for Jones and Tyson, the two faced off back in 2020 – an exhibition done right in the minds of boxing fans
