Anthony Joshua Reveals Lesson Learned From Francis Ngannou Fight

On March 8th, Francis Ngannou entered the ring against two-time former unified heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua with ambition and high hopes. Following the impressive performance he delivered against Tyson Fury in October last year, a section of the boxing community expected ‘The Predator’ to put Joshua in a fix. On the other hand, as far as style was concerned, ‘The Gypsy King’ believed Ngannou vs. Joshua would be entertaining. While the fight was indeed entertaining, Joshua completely shocked Ngannou and many others with a stellar performance.

‘AJ’ scored two knockdowns early in the fight and managed to knock the Cameroonian out cold in the second round earning a victory. And in the wake of this win, Joshua opened up about a valuable lesson he learned from the Ngannou fight.

After the loss against Anthony Joshua, Francis Ngannou told the media that ‘AJ’ was “way better” than him in the ring. Although Ngannou was devastated, he understood that losses and wins are part of the fight game. Additionally, he branded Joshua as “quite special” since ‘AJ’ achieved what Tyson Fury could not.

Likewise, when Dose of Society asked Anthony Joshua about the lesson he learned from the victory against the former UFC champion, ‘AJ’ said, “To [have] respect for your opponent always. Don’t let losses define you. And don’t get too carried away when you win.” It is to be noted that following the bout, ‘AJ’ remained humble and showed the spirit of sportsmanship, winning the hearts of many. Following this response, as the reporter asked what advice ‘AJ’ would have given to his younger self, the boxer replied, “Move to a tax-free country.”

On the other hand, Ngannou took the loss like a true sportsman. After being outclassed by the former two-time unified heavyweight champ, the Cameroonian commented on what’s next for him already.

After the fight was over, in the ring, Anthony Joshua forbade Ngannou to quit. Additionally, he even promised to contribute to the Francis Ngannou Foundation which is dedicated to making the lives in Africa and Cameroon better. Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Ngannou said, “You can be sure I’m not done here. It wasn’t my day. It sucks but it’s the game. We all know that,” said Ngannou.

And for that reason, in the latest diatribe from Bill Haney to Floyd Mayweather, the death of Tommy Smalls has been raised as an issue.

Tommy Smalls, a name synonymous with nurturing greatness in the ring, has left a great legacy behind him. Smalls wasn’t just a member of Mayweather’s training camp; their bond transcended years of collaboration. A constant advocate for Mayweather’s talent, Smalls’ voice consistently championed Floyd’s prowess.

This dedication extended beyond established stars. Smalls’ keen eye spotted a young prodigy at the Roy Jones Jr. Fight Academy – a then 16-year-old Devin Haney, now the WBC super lightweight champion. Among all the boxers he has trained, Mayweather was the one he talked about the most. However, despite this, Bill Haney pointed out that Mayweather didn’t offer any assistance to his family when he passed away, and he also did not contribute any money for his funeral.

Bill wrote on X, “Money don’t make real men. Me, Dev, J Prince & Kurt buried Tommy Smalls. While Floyd posted Smalls on his social media. Money May didn’t put a dime up for the funeral nor did he help out the family. Floyd talked to Tommy more than anyone and Tommy family is hurt.”

However, there is no way of confirming if this is true or not. It’s just his word against Mayweather’s. However, it’s still quite a big accusation. How Mayweather counters this charge remains to be seen.

Devin Haney’s recent victory over Regis Prograis wasn’t just a display of boxing brilliance. Haney dominated the fight, securing the WBC junior welterweight title and becoming a two-division champion. However, the win was tinged with sadness. Early in training camp, Haney revealed he’d lost his close friend and trainer, Tommy Smalls. “It really hurt me,” Haney confessed.

Yet, Haney found strength in his grief. “I just used it as motivation,” he declared. “Mike seems to be getting better in looking after himself and is in a good place. We all know the history of Mike and what he went through but he is doing great and is in the gym training at 57.

“He still looks ferocious, and I have seen his punching power online so I think Jake Paul will be in trouble. You have to respect the younger guy will outbox him and pick him off with speed because he’s the smaller man, but from what I see on social media on how Mike is training, trust me I would not take up the offer to fight him, so good luck to Jake.

“The name and brand gets you the opportunity these days and not what you’ve done in the ring. The name gets you the opportunity. But you don’t have to fight the best person in boxing now, it’s not what you’ve done or achieved.

“Gone are the days of fighting for a world title, and people choose to double the purse and fight the YouTuber, and if being honest that’s the problem I have with boxing.”

Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson will take place on July 20th and be broadcast on Netflix, although the rumoured rules of the bout have been criticized by many.

Before his next fight, Terence Crawford’s shocking career update was revealed.

Terence Crawford is expected to return to the ring in the near future following his sensational win over Errol Spence Jr last year, but a surprise twist has been revealed ahead of his next fight.

The 36-year-old cemented his place as one of the pound-for-pound superstars with his one-sided stoppage win over Spence last July to become undisputed welterweight champion.

The fight included a rematch clause with Spence exercised, but after undergoing cataract surgery last month, it appears that ‘Bud’ is now going to head in another direction.

It has now been reported by Mike Coppinger of ESPN that the failure to enforce the rematch means that Crawford is no longer obliged to have his next fight with PBC.

“Crawford signed a one-fight deal with PBC to meet Errol Spence last July, and after “Bud” won the undisputed welterweight championship, Spence exercised the rematch clause.

“However, Spence underwent cataract surgery in January and the scheduling window provided by the rematch clause has since expired, meaning Crawford, like Canelo, is also a network and promotional free agent.”

Crawford being a free agent means there are a number of other options available to the Omaha man, as he looks to secure his next fight.

A return to Top Rank to fight on ESPN could be on the cards, where ‘Bud’ spent the majority of his career, before leaving to face Spence, but the bad blood that followed between Crawford and Bob Arum after his departure could make that extremely unlikely.

Teaming up with Matchroom Boxing or Golden Boy Promotions could also be a possibility, while the door remains open for Crawford to strike a new deal and continue working with PBC.

He is the latest fighter to become a free agent after working with PBC, with Canelo Alvarez set to depart just one fight into his three-fight deal.

Joe Joyce is looking to bounce back into title contention during 2024 after suffering two defeats to Zhilei Zhang last year, and now he has called out fellow Brit and two-time world champion Anthony Joshua for a fight on an upcoming card in Saudi Arabia.

Saudi adviser and boxing catalyst Turki Alalshikh recently unveiled his intentions to stage a ‘Matchroom versus Queensbury’ card, which would see five of Eddie Hearn’s fighters pitted up against five of Frank Warren’s stable, across five different weight-classes.

As of now, no fighters or divisions on the bill has been revealed, but both Hearn and Warren have agreed to partake in the card, with the latter suggesting the two promoters could further ‘spice things up’ with a wager that their respective fighters will come out on top.

Speaking to Queensberry Promotions, Joyce declared that he would be willing to step in as Warren’s heavyweight selection for the show and admitted that he would face Joshua, who is continuing his own comeback as he aims to regain the heavyweight throne.

“Yeah [I would fight on the card], why not? That would be entertaining.”

[Against] a certain ‘AJ’ maybe.

For now, Joshua will be focussed on his upcoming showdown with Francis Ngannou, where the winner has been promised a shot at the victor of Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk and hence the unified world titles, meaning the chances of seeing Joshua vs. Joyce are unlikely.

Meanwhile, ‘Juggernaut’ Joyce has his own bout lined up, as he bids to get back to winning ways against Kash Ali on March 16th in Birmingham.

This morning, Boxing Kingdom asked a preposterous question: “Who would you like to see Terence Crawford fight next?” On July 29 of last year, the Nebraskan southpaw emerged victorious over Errol Spence Jr. to become the first undisputed champion in two divisions for men. Since then, a number of names and suggestions have surfaced. The world champion has a good number of options to choose from. What about the fans, though? Which opponent would they rather see take on Terence Crawford?

Shortly after beating Spence Jr., “Bud” declared that Canelo Alvarez and Jermall Charlo were his targets. But the alternatives were further limited once the former lost to the Mexican superstar. Remember that fighting Alvarez requires you to climb three divisions up, which is an enormous amount of work. He cleared up all the doubts regarding the likelihood of a fight between Gervonta Davis and himself. Errol Spence Jr. has activated the rematch clause by September.

The IBF chose to give up Terence Crawford’s title later in November, changing his status from undisputed champion to unified champion. The action came about as a result of “Bud” being unable to face IBF mandatory challenger Jaron Ennis.

As spectators watched, there were notable shifts at the top of the welterweight division. That’s not the case; they produced no conclusive results. Regarding fans, however, they seem confident about a few of prospects being worthwhile.

In an interview with Ryan Clark and Channing Crowder, Mayweather defended his extravagant spending, saying, “This [is] the truth.” I tell the truth. These are brief, transient inspections. He went on to say that no one had $12 million laying around in a regular account, so he had to wire it from another account!

“I said to them, give me twelve because, as everybody in business knows, that kind of money isn’t kept in a regular account, so I had to wire the money from elsewhere.I headed directly to the bank. The problem is, I can’t make all the money and let someone else do all the dictating and controlling, so I had to go to the bank myself to make sure s**t gets done,” Mayweather remarked.

In addition, he paid the sum due after consulting his tax counsel about the necessary amount. My tax lawyer advised us to get this for our first year. He told me he needed—I believe it was 17—9995, or something similar. It said over 18 [one] day later. Give it to him, I say,” Mayweather remarked.

Floyd Mayweather discussed his Super Bowl tickets later in the podcast, implying that he spoke with his longtime partner, the “ticket guy.” “I call my guy the ticket guy when the Baltimore Ravens play the Kansas City Chiefs. You remember, I spent years and years working behind the scenes, doing a lot of music tours with Al Haymon.” I therefore know every ticket man,” Mayweather remarked.

After years of communication with his ticket agent, Mayweather disclosed that he desired Super Bowl tickets for every member of his crew. “Hey, I need seats for the game just in case, you know, for my team,” I said. President Joe Biden has received encouragement from former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson to change the country’s legalization of marijuana. Tyson demands the release of thousands of nonviolent cannabis offenders who are incarcerated in federal facilities. According to reports, more than 2,000 people—mostly people of color—are incarcerated for offenses that are now acceptable in over half of the nation. This also includes the legalization of cannabis for recreational use in 24 states. In a similar vein, several well-known figures have advocated for changing the way that accusations pertaining to marijuana are handled, such as Drake and Killer Mike.

There have been allegations of deceptive communication regarding President Joe Biden’s stance on pardons linked to marijuana. This was especially concerning given his campaign pledge to decriminalize marijuana. According to The Guardian, in a promotional film for the cannabis firm Reeform—which was co-founded by Weldon Angelos, a formerly jailed man who was granted mercy in 2016—vocal proponent and entrepreneur Mike Tyson highlights the need for mercy. Tyson says he’s shocked that people are getting hefty punishments for marijuana charges.

He called it “murderers’ time” because of his use of what he views as a “mild medicine.” Tyson is scheduled to present a letter to the White House advocating for community reconciliation in order to further emphasize this message. He added, “The war on marijuana is over, Mr. President, as seen by nationwide legalization initiatives and polls indicating that the majority of Americans are against marijuana prohibition.”

“You can declare an end to federal warfare on our own people and mark a new era based on peace and prosperity through a categorical clemency grant,” he added. His letter, however, follows the appeal made by well-known musicians like Drake and Killer Mike.

More than 150 well-known people, including Kevin Garnett, Killer Mike, Drake, and Deion Sanders, had pleaded with President Joe Biden back in 2021 to give a broad pardon to anyone serving time for nonviolent marijuana charges. Erik Luna, director of the Academy for Justice, and Weldon Angelos, president of The Weldon Project, spearheaded the project.

The signatories think that a pardon of this kind would promote economic growth and public safety. Together, a large number of professions, including legislators, sports, producers, and artists, argued in favor of a reasonable and compassionate response to cannabis-related offenses. It said in the letter, “Enough is enough.” For using marijuana, no one ought to be imprisoned in a federal facility. The scarlet letter of a federal conviction for marijuana offenses shouldn’t be worn by anyone anymore.

Additionally, it pleaded, “Those who will have their sentences commuted comprise a small percentage of the federal prison population and are imprisoned only for non-violent marijuana offenses.” Thus, they had made the strongest possible argument to President Joe Biden.
