The PGA Tour plans to make several adjustments starting with the 2024 season. A 16-person Player Advisory Council (PAC) was announced for 2024. Numerous names have been switched around, and Tiger Woods is among those making the decisions.
For those who are unaware, this group provides advice and consultations on matters pertaining to the traditional league to Commissioner Jay Monahan and the PGA Tour Policy Board (Board of Directors). Camilo Villegas and Kevin Streelman are leading candidates for the position of PAC Chairman, which is chosen by the Player directors. The election that will determine the winner will conclude on February 27.
The victor will also take Jordan Spieth’s place as a Player director on the PGA Tour Board of Directors. Tiger Woods, Adam Scott, Patrick Cantlay, Peter Malnati, and Webb Simpson are now the other player directors.
Even though Woods is one of the PAC’s player directors, more people will be joining the team. This year, nine players from the 2023 PAC did not make a return. Players returning from last year’s PAC include Brian Harman, Sam Burns, Max Homa, Mackenzie Hughes, Keith Mitchell, Kevin Streelman, and Scottie Scheffler. It was unexpected to see Lanto Griffin and Grayson Murray included among all of these PGA Tour guys. Twenty-one players, including these two, voiced their concerns over the Board of Directors and the Tiger Woods-led PAC. They insisted on having a meeting to discuss issues with the board of independent directors.
In addition, they co-signed a letter to the PGA Tour Policy Board requesting further information regarding the ongoing talks about restructuring and business negotiations with the PIF. Last year, when Griffin was talking about who the board should pick to replace Rory McIlroy, he was very emphatic.
Now that he’s on the PGA Tour, time will tell if he’ll cooperate with the team to further the tour’s goals or stick to his earlier demands.
