We are just a few days into 2024, and the golf world has seen much chaos already. Besides the season-opening Sentry Tournament, another thing that has been making news lately is the new sponsors of some players. Two days ago, Jason Day made headlines with his new clothing sponsor, Malbon Golf, after leaving Nike. However, amidst the turmoil, the golf fraternity was quick to see a slight brim of light, courtesy, of Scottie Scheffler.

Ever since Tiger Woods has made a return to the greens, the speculations about his fractured Nike deal have been making rounds on the internet. While much confusion and uncertainty regarding it is still in the air, Scheffler has returned to the course to save the day with his subtle tribute to the 15x major champion.

After winning the POY, Scottie Scheffler is starting this year by playing in the Sentry Tournament. After the first round, he is sitting on T7 on the leaderboard. However, it is not just his performance that is gaining traction at the event. Through his footwear, Scheffler has paid a subtle tribute to Woods.

On the grounds of Kapalua, Scheffler is sporting the famous Tiger Woods Nike shoes. He is also seen wearing a Nike T-shirt. The shoes are very popular, as they are the product of a collaboration between Woods and Nike. And Scheffler’s wearing them during the chaos-filled situation is no less than a tribute to Woods.

Woods’s association with Nike is heavily rumored to be in its last stage, with many new options available for him. But during the time they were in a partnership, Nike produced many products like these shoes and more that will continue to be a relic of Woods’s talent and Nike’s impressive products.

As for Scheffler, things are looking on the bright side, as he had a phenomenal start to the year by becoming the Player of the Year after earning a whopping $21,014,342 in the 2023 season for the second time.

Scheffler bags POY for the second time in a row

Last year, Scheffler made the PGA TOUR record for most earned money in one season following which he became the 2023 PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the second time. On getting this honor he said, “Anything you receive, voted on by your peers, is very special to me. Being able to go home with this trophy two years in a row is very special. I think the work I put in last year with the consistency and finishing top most of the weeks I played.”

With his POY win, the golfer carded his name in an elite company alongside Tiger Woods, who won the honor three times in a row from 2005-07. He was proud of his consistency, and he was very appreciative of the award. Whether he wins Sentry or not, with this title, his week has been made.
