But this is not the only time Hull did something so bold. The English golfer had once ruled out Tiger Woods from her preference list.

In 2022, Charley Hull was featured in an interview with Golf Holidays Direct. During the Quick Question session, Hull was landed with a very crucial pair of golfers to choose from. The interviewer, Conor Pettit, asked, “Tiger Woods or Laura Davis?” And well, Charley Hull did not choose Tiger Woods. Within a few seconds, she chose one of the most eminent female golfers of all time, Laura Davies. She replied, “I’m gonna go Laura I love Laura.”

Laura Davies is one of England’s most revered female golfers with 87 professional wins, including four major titles she earned between 1987 and 1996. Additionally, Davies still holds the title of the most number of wins with 45 titles on the Ladies European Tour. Tiger Woods, on the other hand, is one of the greatest and most popular living legends in the golf industry with 82 professional wins on the Tour including 15 major titles.

However, it was not the statistics and achievement comparisons that made Charley Hull choose Laura Davies over Tiger Woods. She had revealed to The Telegraph her true opinions about Davies. She stated, “She [Laura Davies] is such an exciting golfer. No messing around and throws herself into each shot.”

Moreover, Hull always believed in Laura Davies and wished to become like her. She confessed to pretending to be Davies as a kid. Hull stated, “When I was a kid and I’d go out with the two boys I’d play with, James would want to be Seve [Ballesteros], Daniel would want to be Phil Mickelson and I’d pretend to be Laura Davies.”

But the young Charley Hull might have been extremely thrilled if she knew that, in the future, Davies would have great compliments for her.

Golf Digest prompted Chat GPT for a list containing the top 10 greatest golfers of all time. Jack Nicklaus. took the first position, whereas Woods followed the legend at number two. The number of major wins must have played a crucial role in deciding the rankings. The Golden Bear holds the record for the most major wins in the history of golf, with a total of 18 victories. Tiger Woods is again second on the list, with just three wins behind the 84-year-old golfer with 15 wins.

There were many other legendary pros named too, like Ben Hogan and Arnold Palmer, who took the 3rd and 5th ranks, respectively. While LIV Golf’s Phil Mickelson was slated to be the 10th greatest golfer.

Circling back to the Woods vs. Nicklaus debate, many in the golf world did not seem to agree with Woods being second to Nicklaus. Woods fans wasted no time in coming to the 82-time PGA Tour winner’s defense and shared why, according to them, Mr. T is the world’s number one golfer, given his career trajectory and the accolades he has garnered over the years.

Tiger wouldn’t even know Jacks name if they played in the same era.” Notably, Woods had 126 under par in majors from 1997 to 2013 and the second-best score was by Steve Flesch, trailing 251 strokes behind at 125 over par.

Another Woods fan drew a comparison from basketball and then proposed the argument that major championship counts don’t matter as much when stating which player is the greatest. Although Garcia has not won in recent days, the 44-year-old has not led that dim his light. The annual event returned to Vegas this year. As part of the unique experience, guests would get the chance to tee off at Shadow Creek Golf Course, famed as much for its unique Tom Fazio-designed layout as for hosting the famed made-for-TV Tiger Woods vs. Phil Mickelson match.

The Friday night experience featured a charity poker event in collaboration with the World Poker Tour. It was presented by Maria Ho, one of the most well-known female poker players in the world and a Women in Poker Hall of Fame inductee. Woods, apparently, sat at the table for this particular event.

The world isn’t aware of his poker skills, but what caught the fans’ eyes was his muscular buildup. Woods’s physical transformation since coming back from surgery has always been a hot topic for discussion. Now, when TWLegion, a Tiger Woods tracking page, posted a screengrab from the promotional video, it quickly turned the conversation around his physique.

The golf world is undoubtedly awaiting Tiger Woods’s annual charity event, the 2024 Tiger Jam. But the focus naturally falls on the second night of the whole experience. Aimed at showering the guests with “curated experiences, and epicurean delights,” Saturday Night is set to feature a lot of entertainment, and music, along with a bit of philanthropy. The fans would, however, better know it as the ‘Tiger Jam Auction’.

The auction has managed to raise a lot of funds for the TGR Foundation while leaving unforgettable memories for the guests in attendance. The live and silent auctions at the Tiger Jam have raised more than $20 million as of 2018 and have allowed the winners to bid for a “chance to win luxurious getaways, one-of-a-kind memorabilia, golf experiences,” not to mention the opportunity to caddy for the 15-time major champ.

Every year there have been amazing concerts featured in the Tiger Jam auctions, with Britney Spears, Beyoncé, Toby Keith, and Justin Bieber having graced the stage among others. The event this year, interestingly so, will feature a chance to bid for four tickets to Taylor Swift’s record-breaking ‘The Eras Tour’ in Miami at Hard Rock Stadium on October 19. The silent auction will also include two passes for a Meet & greet with DJ Diesel, better known as Shaquille O’Neal; a Mariah Carey Holiday Show; and a chance to hang out with Steve Aoki after Tiger Jam. These are just some of the tickets that are available for the auction.

Aside from bidding for entertainment, enthusiasts can try to buy experiences, be it from golf or any other sports. One of the most eye-catching items for any follower of Golf would be a chance to carry the bags for Tiger Woods during the Hero World Challenge Pro-Am that is set to take place on December 4, 2024. Tiger Woods finished his first round at Valhalla 1-over par, putting him in a decent spot to see the weekend at the PGA Championship.

But two blowup holes early in his second round wiped out any hopes he had of playing Saturday and Sunday.

Woods, at 7-over par, will miss the cut at the PGA Championship.

He has not finished four rounds at the tournament since 2020 and has done so just twice overall since 2013.

Since Woods finished second in the 2018 event, the tournament has not been kind to him. He missed the cut in 2019 despite winning the Masters two months earlier. Then, he finished tied for 37th in 2020, didn’t play in 2021, then withdrew after three rounds in 2022. He also missed the tournament last year.

Woods parred his first hole, but things went south on the par-4 second. A pitch shot went into the front-side bunker. Then, he airmailed the green into the backside trap. After finally getting on in five, he two-putted his way to a triple bogey.

He three-putted on the par-3 third for a bogey, then recorded another triple at the fourth, a par-4, after getting stuck in more sand.

Woods showed bright spots when he birdied seven and eight, the latter of which he was mere inches from a hole-in-one. But that was the only success he had on the day. He bogeyed 11 and 12 to get to 7-over on the day but salvaged the day with a birdie on the par-5 18th.

He finished the day with a 6-over 77, nearly 24 years after his PGA title at the Louisville course.

It will be just his 13th missed cut at a major, but nine of them have come since 2015. He’s also withdrawn from two.

This comes after Woods finished in last at The Masters. He carded an 82 in the third round, his lowest score ever at Augusta.

The tournament is now headlined by Scottie Scheffler’s arrest early Friday morning as he traveled to Valhalla.

Scheffler was detained at 6:01 a.m. and released just over 2½ hours later, arriving at Valhalla another half-hour after that, 56 minutes before his tee time.

Scheffler was booked into the Louisville Department of Corrections later Friday. He was charged with second-degree assault of a police officer (a felony), criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic.

And then he shot a 5-under 66 to head into the clubhouse two shots back of the lead.

On Friday night Tiger Woods concluded play at the 2024 PGA Championship. And for the first time in a long time, the golf world’s reaction to his round felt like one collective shrug.

For years now (for decades, really) we’ve hung on Woods’ every shot in these major championship starts. We’ve studied his gait. His ball speed. His putting stroke. In his latest comeback we’ve taken little moments (a flagged long iron, say) and wondered if they could turn to big moments. If he could just string enough of ’em together … could he win again?

But this week was different.

There were other factors involved, of course. Scottie Scheffler’s arrest loomed over the day’s proceedings, for one thing. And second-round tee time was delayed until mid-afternoon; by the time Woods addressed a half-empty press room, eight shots off the cut line, it was nearly 8 p.m. Asked to describe his week, he sighed and smiled.

“The week? It was a great week being here, being here at Valhalla, and unfortunately my scores did not indicate how the people treated me and how great a week I had,” he said. “Unfortunately, I hit too many shots.”

There was no denying that part. Woods had just birdied the 18th hole to close out a second-round six-over 77; paired with his first-round 72 that left him at 7 over par for the tournament, the same score as club pro sensation Michael Block.

Still, Woods showed enough form that optimists could find bright spots. For 16 holes on Thursday he was a relatively effortless one under par. He was moving well, too. I’m not saying he looked like a future major winner. But a major top-20er? You could talk yourself into that.

But then Woods showed enough weakness to feed the pessimists, too. First he failed to finish off his opening round, three-putting his final two holes from relatively innocuous spots on the green. Then he got off to a disastrous start to his second round, going par-triple-bogey-triple out of the gate. He played those six holes in nine over par. The other 30? A respectable 2 under.

In other words, there are no hot takes or strong conclusions to accompany Woods’ week. He’s not definitively done. He’s also not definitively back. This didn’t feel like a new beginning but it didn’t feel like the beginning of the end, either. He can walk okay. His swing looks good. But he looked rough around the edges, too. He played a stretch of disappointing golf and golf fans would like to see him better. On Friday night he made it clear that he expects better, too.

“I just kept making mistakes and [doing] things you can’t do, not just in tournaments but in majors especially. And I just kept making them.” He sounded incredulous at the idea.

He, too, could find some bright spots. “Physically, yes, I am better than I was a month ago,” he said, referring to his made cut at the Masters. And he added that he’s still confident his game will get better in time. But at that thought — in time — Woods suddenly looked a little sad. Time remains an enemy.

“I just need to play more,” he said. “Unfortunately I just haven’t played a whole lot of tournaments — and there aren’t a lot of tournaments on my schedule, either. Hopefully everything will somehow come together in my practice sessions at home and be ready for Pinehurst.”

That’s Woods’ current dilemma. His tough reality. His body hasn’t allowed him to play more than a handful of tournaments per year. But he needs more tournament reps to play well in those tournament starts. If the only thing he needs to do is the only thing he can’t, then that’s a problem without an easy answer.

It’s an especially tall task given his hand-picked schedule of the toughest, most competitive events on Tour. For three and a half years, every tournament that Tiger Woods has played has been either a major championship or an event where he’s the host. As the game has gotten more difficult he has continued to ratchet the difficulty up even further.

It’s easy to imagine an alternate future. Would a John Deere start not do him wonders? A non-major where he’s not playing host? Where he could buzz in on Tuesday and see how he felt in a lower-pressure setting? Fans of Woods still remember when he took that approach at the 2018 Valspar Championship — with great success. But 2018 was a long time ago, and it gets further every day. This is a different Woods with a different body.

It bears mentioning that Woods has added another job to his plate, too. He joined the PGA Tour’s Policy Board and now the board of its for-profit wing, PGA Tour Enterprises. Together that’s no small commitment.

“All three are important in their own different ways,” he said Friday. “For me playing for pride and what I can do out here, but also off the golf course the impact and responsibility that I have as a player director and as a representative of the players and what I can do off the golf course to help this tour.”

The player directors have insisted that they’re able to balance play with off-course efforts. But Woods also acknowledged the strain it takes.

“We just don’t sleep much,” he said. “There’s a lot of late nights and Zoom calls at odd hours of the night, all throughout the night, and lots of e-mails to read.”

This is Tiger Woods’ reality now. More emails. Fewer tournaments. An uncooperative body. A belief things can still improve. And an ongoing chase for better.

“Just keep fighting,” he said, asked what he got out of his final 14 holes, once his missed-cut fate was sealed. “Keep the pedal down, keep fighting, keep grinding, keep working hard at posting the best score that I can possibly post today. That’s all I can do. It’s going to be a lot, but I’m going to fight until the end.”

We won’t see Woods again until the U.S. Open, golf’s famously unforgiving test. Here’s hoping he inspires when we do. Hopefully everything will somehow come together, to borrow his words.
