In a recent episode on The Scoop with journalist Claire Rogers, under the banner of golf.com, Fred Couples divulged his friendship with famous basketball star Michael Jordan. The golf professional started by addressing the funniest incident that had occurred between the two.
Back in 2009, the golfer had called up the basketball icon to inform him of his presence at the President’s Cup as an assistant captain. Initially, the former Chicago Bulls player had thought that his friend was kidding about it. However, Couples in immediate response had informed on National TV that Jordan would be a part of the team.
Zipping forward to the actual tournament, the legendary basketball star had been highly empathetic to all the youngsters on the team. With the likes of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson around, it would have been easy for the rookies to get overwhelmed, undoubtedly.

The humor kicked in when Couples revealed everyone’s star-struck reaction to the 60-year-old veteran. Though it was the “cool-cat” Kim whose reaction was unexpected. Tiger Woods’ Car Accidents
Woods has suffered a dark fate when it comes to accidents. He has been involved in three separate car accidents, each life-threatening. The first came in 2009 when the golf pro lost control of his SUV and crashed it into a fire hydrant, soon after pulling out of the driveway of his Florida mansion. He was knocked out and lost consciousness for nearly 6 minutes. His injuries from the accident had been described as “serious.”
Eight years later, in 2017, the golf legend was arrested in Florida for DUI. The police had found him passed out behind the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz. There seemed to have been a minor accident before the cops found him.
In February 2021, Woods was yet again involved in a car accident. Due to a speed crash, his car had flown off the road. He was the only party involved in the accident. Tiger and his father, Earl, started the TGR Foundation back in 1996. It first set out with the goal of helping children play the sport. Woods, on a very candid note, surprised everyone by his answer: “Don’t watch f***king YouTube!” making the crowd roar with laughter.
The fan prompted him with a follow-up advice, to which he answered: “Go hit balls…just beating balls!”
Woods wasn’t making full swings while on the course, but witnessing him shoot a couple of one-handed chips and make jokes was enough to send every Tiger fan into a star struck frenzy! It is still unclear as to when the 82 times PGA Tour winner will be making an official return to the green, but seeing him in shorts with his right knee in a compression stocking due to his injury, has fans concerned about his health, leaving an uncertainty over his return in the near future.
The compression stocking is known to act as a support to the fascia ligament through its compression of the foot arch, thereby reducing pain and inflammation resulting from plantar fasciitis.

Resilience Beyond Measure: 20 Injuries and Counting
With a career laden with major injuries, Tiger Woods has seen it all – a ruptured ACL, a torn Achilles tendon and an almost fatal car crash. It all started with a scar and benign tumor removal from his left knee in 1994, and a cyst removal and fluid drain from the same knee in 2002. He went on to make an epic comeback with a win at the Buick Invitational in 2003, right after the surgery!
In arguably his best year career wise, with 8 PGA Tour and 2 major wins, Woods injured a muscle in his left shoulder blade in 2006, after winning five tournaments back to back. But in 2007, came a big one when he ruptured the ACL in his left knee, going on to win five of the next six events pushing through the injury.
In 2008, Woods had knee surgery two days after finishing second at the Masters. He returned two months after the surgery to win the US Open. But he had to miss the rest of the season after a reconstructive procedure on his previously damaged ACL. He had also fractured his left tibia in preparation for the US Open.
In 2008, Tiger Woods tore his Achilles tendon, an injury that kept pestering him way into 2009. He, however, managed to stay on top of the Official World Golf Rankings those years. But, fate had something else planned for the golf great when he ended up in a car accident in November 2009, when his SUV crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree, as he left his home.
Six months later, the golfer had to withdraw from the Players Championship in 2010, owing to a neck injury. By 2012, Woods couldn’t seem to escape his injuries as his Achilles tendon injury resurfaced, followed by intense back issues in 2014. As a result, the golf legend missed the 2014 Masters after undergoing back surgery to treat a pinched nerve, which was closely followed by a second back surgery in 2015.
Woods made a return to golf in 2017 in hopes of regaining his lost footing, but had to withdraw again due to intense back spasms. This ultimately led to a third back surgery with Woods saying, “When healed, I look forward to getting back to a normal life, playing with my kids, competing in professional golf and living without the pain I’ve been battling so long.”
In 2021, Woods miraculously survived a near fatal car crash, but ended up sustaining serious leg injuries that transformed into a plantar fasciitis in his right leg causing him to miss the entire 2023 season following the Masters.
In the face of immense despair, Woods’ resilience and fortitude in the face of adversity is an inspiration. Because every time he fell down, he got back up even stronger, carving a journey that remains unmatched to this date.

The driving distance between Charlie Woods’ first shot and the other kids’ was significantly longer. Young Mr. Woods seems to have landed it in the rough, whereas the other boys safely kept it around the fairway. But he is Tiger Woods’ son, so he loves a good challenge and lives for competition.

Instantly, and dejectedly he stated, “I hate to say it, but I’ve got to admit it: he finally did it.” However, the saving grace was that it was a one-time thing for now! Woods explained that he had “spun one” while his son had “tomahawked” it and beat the golf legend on that drive.
It certainly seems like Woods Jr. is already on his path to greatness, however, when the time will come when he’s regularly outdriving his father, remains to be seen.
Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods’ innovative golf league ‘TGL’ has been given yet another boost thanks to the investment of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Antetokounmpo has invested in one of the league’s teams, Los Angeles Golf Club, joining Seven Seven Six founder Alexis Ohanian and tennis legends Serena and Venus Williams. The Milwaukee Bucks star’s brothers Thanasis, Kostas and Alex will also be involved. Antetokounmpo confirmed the news on social media on Tuesday, writing: “We want to make golf our own and for everybody [We] are excited to announce our involvement as investors in @WeAreLAGC – the inaugural team of TGL. We couldn’t be more excited to shape the future of this sport.”
Founder, and wife of Serena Williams, Ohanian welcomed the investment of the Antetokounmpo brothers in a post of his own. “Few things in life better than getting to work with your friends,” he tweeted. “The Antetokounmpo fam is so remarkably aligned with our team’s values and their inspiring story speaks to our mission to show that golf is for everyone. Excited to be building @WeAreLAGC with ya @Giannis_An34, @Thanasis_ante43, @Kostas_ante13, @alex_ante29.”
LAGC were the first of three TGL teams to be announced earlier this year, with three still to come ahead of the beginning of the league in January 2024. The six teams will consist of three PGA Tour players, 12 of which have already been confirmed. Unsurprisingly, league founders Woods and McIlroy will both feature in the virtual league. They will also be joined by Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Billy Horschel and Rickie Fowler.
Kicking off at the beginning of next year, the league will consist of a 15-week regular season followed by semi-final and final matches. Woods and McIlroy announced TGL last August, having formed TMRW Sports alongside Mike McCarley.
The formation of the league came amid the PGA Tour’s dispute with rivals LIV Golf. Both Woods and McIlroy emerged as two of the Saudi-backed series’ biggest critics, with TGL dubbed as one of the circuit’s latest attempts to thwart off the threat of the LIV circuit. The two rival tours have since opted to work in unison, after the PGA Tour announced a shock agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) in June.
It’s not often a young professional golfer gets to hear their name in the same breath as Tiger Woods – but Rose Zhang isn’t an ordinary golfer. Zhang is a rising star on the LPGA Tour and quickly made an impact on the circuit as soon as she left the amateur ranks.
At Stanford, Zhang was stellar. She was a two-time NCAA champion, a Pac-12 Conference champion and won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur. Zhang had 12 wins in 20 starts for the Cardinal, besting Woods’ record – he had 11 victories in 26 appearances.
When Zhang became the first golfer to win in her LPGA Tour debut since Beverly Hanson in 1951, Woods gave Zhang a shout-out on X, the social media company formerly known as Twitter.
“Incredible few weeks for Rose Zhang, defends her NCAA title and then wins in her Pro debut. Go card!” he wrote.
The 20-year-old rising star explained to Fox News Digital in a recent interview that she was unsure of what to think of the comparisons to one of the greatest golfers of all time.
“When it first initially became a thing where Tiger and I were in the same conversation, it was almost hard to believe because Tiger is arguably the greatest player to exist,” she said. “He completely modernized our game. It was such a high regard, and I was kind of flabbergasted by how people would compare me and him.”
“Over time, it’s always something you hear, but it’s not something I really let into my mind on a daily basis. It’s more of kind of background noise where you hear the conversation; you acknowledge that it’s there, but it’s not necessarily a prominent part of how I live my life. And I guess that really helps because I can differentiate conversation and background noise versus reality and what I’m doing in the present.”
Starting her professional career with a win set high expectations for Zhang. She won the Mizuho Americas Open in a playoff against Jennifer Kupcho.
But she’s been able to get great advice from some of the veterans on the tour like Michelle Wie West and the legendary Annika Sorenstam.
“I’ve been really fortunate to have so many players support me and reach out to me, regardless of whether I had a question about something, whether it was building my team or just understanding how the LPGA schedule works,” Zhang told Fox News Digital.
“Michelle Wie is one of the people that has really come to me and said if you have any questions, seriously, let me know. Our career paths are somewhat falling along the same lines since I am going back to school in the winter. So, with that in mind, she’s gone through this route of balancing education and balancing professional golf. She’s really taught me to not only enjoy it but also to really just live life, have a bit of fun.
“Along those lines, Annika Sorenstam has always told, not only the press but even to me, where she would always have this line of ‘smell the roses.’ As cliché as it sounds, it’s much harder to do than actually to say. When you’re playing well, when things are happening in a whirlwind, when everything is going really quickly, it’s still important to take a step back and to realize your surroundings, which I find very insightful.”
Zhang, who spoke to Fox News Digital on behalf of her new partnership with Uswing, said she wants fans who are going to follow her career to know that what they see on the course is who she is in real life.
“For people out there who follow along with me, I will say that I’d just like to let them know that I’m a pretty realistic and genuine person, player on and off the golf course. Everything I do on the golf course is authentic and genuine. Everything I do off the golf course is also who I am.”
“I’m human. I’m trying my best to live my life with my career. And at the same time, I also want to work toward inspiring people around me, inspiring those that I care about, those who are younger, older, etc.”
Morikawa has played better than anyone this week at the Tour Championship. He even surpassed a record Tiger Woods held for quite some time.
ATLANTA — Move over Tiger Woods, Collin Morikawa now holds the record for having the lowest 36-hole total at the Tour Championship.
Morikawa’s 16-under score of 125 surpasses Woods’ record of 127. Woods accomplished this feat at the 2007 Tour Championship—the year the FedEx Cup debuted.
The two-time major champion shot an incredible 9-under 61 Thursday and followed that up with a bogey-free 6-under 64 on Friday.
Morikawa has yet to record a bogey at East Lake too.
He has dominated the Atlanta course, despite facing a nine-shot deficit when the tournament began, thanks to the starting-strokes format.
“If I were going to tell myself I was going to be 16-under through two days, with my total score or whatever you want to call it, I would have taken that,” Morikawa said after Friday’s round.
“There’s going to be low scores. There are going to continue to be low scores this weekend. Greens are starting to firm up. You’re still going to see guys firing at pins. You have a few short holes that you have to take advantage of. The par-5s are very gettable. It’s not going to end at 16-under. There’s going to be a lot more low scores, a lot more birdies made. I will have to continue to do that over the next two days.”
Morikawa shares the 36-hole with Viktor Hovland, who has played spectacularly too. But Hovland started the tournament at 8-under because of the format. Morikawa has bested the young Norwegian by seven strokes.
And if you take away the starting strokes format, only three other players have shot 9-under or better through 36 holes: Keegan Bradley, Xander Schauffele, and Tyrell Hatton; none of whom are lower than 10-under.
Tiger Woods and Mike Trout are constructing a golf course in South Jersey despite both players being injured for most of the year.
Tiger Woods is walking again.
In a video uploaded by Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout, Woods was seen exiting a vehicle and embracing Trout at their New Jersey golf course this week.
The video includes shots of Woods perusing the property on foot and by golf cart with Trout, a welcome sign for both players’ health.
Woods had surgery on his ankle in April and has made very few public appearances since.
Trout, meanwhile, is back on the injured list with a wrist injury.
Nonetheless, both star athletes traveled to New Jersey to check out Trout National — The Reserve. The South Jersey course is currently under construction and will open at some point in 2025.
Woods and Trout are co-designing the layout of the course, which will be members only.
The private country club will be in Vineland, New Jersey, Trout’s hometown.
Vineland is about 40 miles south of Philadelphia and 35 miles west of Atlantic City.
South Jersey is home to plenty of marquee golf courses, including Pine Valley—perennially ranked the top course in the country by multiple outlets.
Other notable courses in South Jersey include Seaview Golf Club’s Bay Course, the site of the 1942 PGA Championship won by Sam Snead, and Atlantic City Country Club, known as the ‘Birthplace of the Birdie.’
Of course, Woods and Trout hope that Trout National evolves into one of South Jersey’s marquee courses. Knowing the pedigree of these respective athletes, Trout National will likely do so within the coming years.

Tiger Woods was spotted out on the golf course with his son Charlie Woods over the weekend to the delight of millions of golf fans around the world.
The most-recent sighting of Tiger Woods came on Saturday August 19 as he watched his young cub Charlie, 14, in action.
Woods, 47, could be seen in full Nike Golf clothing standing right by a golf cart.
The video was posted on TikTok by tiendogolf.
Charlie now competes in the boys’ 14-15 division on the Hurricane Junior Tour. To the surprise of nobody, his father is an investor.
The teenager actually won his latest event, marking his first win in the 36-hole tournament, posting a 1-under total to win by eight strokes.
The 15-time major champion backed under fire commissioner Jay Monahan after he was confirmed as the PGA Tour’s latest policy board member.
Woods underwent ankle surgery on April 19 just days after withdrawing from The Masters.
He went under the knife in New York to address post-traumatic stress in his right ankle that was caused by the injuries he suffered when he crashed his SUV in the hills of Los Angeles in 2021.
It remains to be seen when Woods will return to PGA Tour action, with some speculating he may be able to make a competitive return at his annual Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas at the end of November.
There is also hope he will be able to peg it up with Charlie at the annual Father-Son PNC Championship in Orlando the week before Christmas.
Some ardent Tiger fans are also hoping he might rock up to support the 2023 US Ryder Cup team at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome.
The PGA Tour recently revealed its 2024 schedule with some interesting twists including changes to Woods’ event at Riviera.
