September 2023 was the month. Tiger Woods was reportedly considering a comeback to the game. In addition, he was observed several times on the greens. The cause? Chasing his son Charlie Woods in the 14–15 age group in the Last Chance Regional (Boys). When February 2024 finally arrives, many start to wonder if the legend will aid his son on the course once more.
Woods has not included the forthcoming tournament in his list of events that he plans to play in for the 2024 season. That puts to rest any uncertainty about how being on the bag for his son might be impacted by his golf profession. The pro’s recent back spasms and sicknesses, which caused him to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational, raise yet another serious concern.
With regards to his influenza, it would take a maximum of one week to have been cured of the same. However, the issue becomes troublesome owing to his back problems. He had undergone spinal surgery for a pinched nerve owing to the back spasms that arose in 2014. Moreover, the 15-time major champ followed it with two microdiscectomies and one back surgery in 2015, a complex surgery to fuse his spinal cord in 2017, and another microdiscectomy in 2021 before his accident.
Well, if the problem still persists by the time pre-qualifiers start, then he would have no option but to employ a cart. But PGA Tour events, unfortunately, do not allow the use of a cart even for a caddie unless it calls for a special situation, such as the case of Casey Martin, a former pro who suffered from Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome. Well, even if they do, the Hall of Famer is against its usage. Thus, everything boils down to his health. If he manages to recover before the event, then YES, he can caddie for his son. However, if Woods is unable to do so, then he will not be able to carry the bags.
Nevertheless, the 82-time PGA Tour champ is renowned for pushing through despite adversity on the greens. What’s more, during the Last Chance Regional qualifiers, he was able to help his son to a win even though the golfer had not completely recovered from the sore knee.
During the qualifying competition for the NB3 National Championship, the 48-year-old was able to help his son card a 6-under 66 in the second and final round. As a result of the same, the young athlete was able to score a total of 7-under-137 over the two days of play and pave his way to the finals at Coushatta.
It was a long road for the 82-time PGA Tour champ. From a string of injuries after 2010 to the major accident in 2021 to the plantar fascitis surgery in 2023, the professional has gone through a lot. Now, one would hope the athlete would be able to return to the course as soon as possible, even as his son’s caddie, after Woods recovers from the back spasms and the influenza.
