He continued, stating how Crawford has completely shut down the idea of the fight again and again. “He(Crawford) already said millions of times that he’s not fighting me or looking my way,” stated Ennis, trying to explain the situation.

The 27-year-old then explained that he had lost all hope of the fight happening. Even though he wants the fight and wants to prove himself against one of the greatest welterweights ever, he has accepted the situation. He stated, “If the fight happens, it happens. I want it to happen, but if not…”

While Boots has made peace with the fight not happening, he does not agree with what Crawford’s camp had to say about him. Earlier this year, Bud’s longtime trainer Brian “Bomac” McIntyre shut down the questions of a potential fight stating Ennis “don’t bring nothing to the table.”

He fought David Avanesyan too.” This is not the first time when Boots has cited his frustration with Crawford’s choice of opponents. So, according to the 32-0 boxer, “none of that stuff makes sense.” While he understood the point that Terence Crawford is at a point “where he could fight whoever he wants and pick whoever he wants,” he is not fine with being sidelined completely.

Canelo-Crawford, the biggest fight in boxing. But we stay ready, though. That way, we don’t got to get ready,” Crawford declared in the clip. However, the Guadalajara native does not look like he would budge.

Knowing that the situation between the two boxers is at a stalemate currently, boxing legend Mike Tyson has offered alternatives for Terence Crawford instead of Canelo Alvarez. In a recent interview with Cam’ron and Mase on the ‘It Is What It Is’ podcast, ‘Iron Mike’ was asked by the rapper Cam’ron, “What is a good fight out there for (Terence) Crawford right now?” Mike Tyson promptly replied, “I want to see him fight 1 of the Charlo brothers and a young brother from Philadelphia, forgot his name…(Jaron) Ennis.”

The knockout artist from Philadelphia, Jaron Ennis, is the current IBF welterweight champion. Interestingly, Crawford was stripped of the IBF welterweight belt for failing to fight his mandatory challenger, Ennis himself, due to being contractually obligated to fight Errol Spence Jr in a rematch that didn’t materialize anyway. Thereafter, ‘Boots’ was elevated to the status of full champion. So, this could become a potential fight for Bud to reclaim his belt from Ennis.

On the other hand, his brother, former middleweight champion Jermall Charlo fought Jose Benavidez Jr last year in November after a hiatus of more than two years and won via unanimous decision. In the same interview, Tyson stated that it was “too much weight” for Terence Crawford to put on for a supper middleweight fight with Canelo, and therefore he doesn’t “like that fight”. Crawford last fought at 154 lbs against Israil Madrimov in August of this year. This means that the former undisputed welterweight champion has to jump up two weight classes to fight Alvarez who is deemed a natural 168-pounder.

Additionally, Crawford’s performance against Madrimov failed to impress ‘Iron Mike’ even though he won the fight. “Too much weight (for Crawford). He had a close fight with the last guy (Madrimov) he fought because he was big and really awkward. He shouldn’t have even fought that guy,” Mike Tyson stated.

Boxing commentator based his opinion on Bud’s last fight against Madrimov where many felt the fight appeared closer than it should have. ShowBizz, thus, implied that with such a performance, Bud might not be ready for Canelo yet. This notion clearly incensed Terence Crawford, who took the opportunity to also make his future plans clear. Crawford, in a post, hitting out at his critics, stated that he has achieved too much to be fighting just any “bum”.

“Dam I did a lot to be fighting all bums!!! haters hate, but my name will for ever be stamped in the history books for ever.✌,” stated Crawford. Crawford clarified that he won’t fight any newcomer or someone with a bad win/loss record. He will only be stepping back into the ring if the price and the opponent are right.

In a separate post, Crawford recapped his incredible achievements over his 16-year career. As one of the few undefeated fighters, ‘Bud’ is regarded as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world. “Canelo went up to 175 and fought Kovalev and the other guy [Dmitry Bivol], too. If he can do it, and he started at 147, if he can do it, why can’t Crawford do it,” the former unified welterweight champion further said.

Interestingly, Canelo started his career in the welterweight division. He moved all the way up to light-heavyweight to assert his dominance. However, ‘Cinnamon’s last fight in that weight class ended in defeat against Dmitry Bivol. Therefore, if Crawford wants to be on the same path, Canelo has already paved the way.

On that note, Canelo’s former promoter, the head of Matchroom Boxing, believes that a matchup against another great talent, David Benavidez, will be a more credible fight for Canelo than one against Crawford. But why does Eddie Hearn think that way?
