Chelsea star Levi Colwill has been the center of a very public transfer saga in the summer window so far, with his future still somewhat uncertain.

The youngster impressed over the past two season, spending the first with Championship side Huddersfield, where he helped guide them to a playoff final. The year after saw the Cobham academy graduate take the step up to the Premier League with a loan move to Brighton.

His development continued with the Seagulls and a Europa League finish cemented that, with a European under 21s Championship triumph also under his belt after. It has naturally led to some interest in the defender, who has just two-years remaining on his current deal.

Brighton have been linked with a swoop, but so too have the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City over the course of the summer window. football.london understands that Chelsea have been impressed with Colwill and currently have no intention of letting him leave.

However, recent comments from Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi have only stirred the story in the past week, amid Chelsea’s own move for their midfielder Moises Caicedo. “There are two questions. Not only about Caicedo, also about Colwill, and maybe it can be [a swap],” the Italian boss suggested.

He also added: “I would like to play with Caicedo and Colwill together but at the moment I can only speak about Caicedo as Colwill is not one of my players.” With that being the recent claim, it has naturally caused quite a bit of discussion, with links continuing to ramp up.

The pre-season match with Newcastle on Thursday then saw the England youth international miss out on making an appearance, which may come as a surprise. However, rather than anything transfer related, Mauricio Pochettino admitted that his lack of minutes was an injury precaution.

Discussing injury issues in the squad after the game, the manager said: “Madueke, Noni. He’s in Philadelphia, a little tightness in his hamstring but it’s not a big thing. Precaution for Thiago [Silva] and Levi [Colwill] and then because we don’t have more possibility to play with Angelo [Gabriel] and Lewis [Hall] because we have three players in the same position. It’s only Madueke that suffers. Maybe it is a thing that can be sorted in the next few days.”
