That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea and Elye Wahi? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – according to Tutto Mercato Web – Chelsea were hoping to have the Frenchman signed by the end of this week, after sending a £35m bid to Montpellier.

However, that has not worked out for the Blues, as those at Stamford Bridge are yet to reach an agreement with the Ligue 1 side.

The deal actually seemed to be in jeopardy at one stage, as L’Equipe claimed that Wahi was not too keen on Chelsea’s idea of an immediate loan to Strasbourg, and Crystal Palace sent an offer to Montpellier.

Now – however – negotiations seem to be back on track.

Romano believes a new round of talks have been scheduled with Montpellier, and Chelsea are getting closer to striking a deal with the French outfit.

Chelsea still intend to loan Wahi out, and are planning to intensify talks next week.

Romano states that Chelsea are worried about competitors pinching the 20-year-old from their grasp, so the priority is to get a deal wrapped up as soon as possible.

Chelsea could sign the next Thierry Henry in Elye Wahi

You may not know much about Wahi – who scored 19 goals in Ligue 1 last season – so a comparison could help.

Interestingly, the France Under-21 international has been likened to none other than Thierry Henry, as detailed by FourFourTwo.

The 45-year-old made a name for himself in England with Arsenal, scoring 175 goals in 258 Premier League appearances as he fired the Gunners to the Premier League title on two occasions.

Wahi has been compared to Henry due to his tendency to cut inside from the left flank onto his stronger right foot, where he often opens up his body to bend a curled finish into the far corner, which was the Arsenal legend’s trademark.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Chelsea attempt to sign another genuine wonderkid after wrapping up deals for Nicolas Jackson and Angelo Gabriel.

Manchester United have announced the departure of Alex Telles, with the left-back linking up with Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr.

Ronaldo swapped Manchester United for Al Nassr in the January transfer window and now Telles has followed suit. Man Utd will reportedly receive around £6million for the 30-year-old, who had one year left on his deal at Old Trafford.

Telles’ contract with the Saudi Pro League side will last until June 2025, while Fabrizio Romano states he will earn around £7m per year while playing in the Middle East.

After confirming Telles’ move, Man Utd sent the defender the following message in a club statement: ‘We’d like to thank Alex for his contributions to the club over the last three years and would like to wish him all the best for the future.’

Telles will take part in his first Al Nassr training session today (Sunday) and could feature in the team’s next game on their pre-season tour of Japan. They face French champions Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.

Telles’ move to Al Nassr is perfect for all parties involved. It will give the player the chance to earn big money in the final few years of his career.

For Man Utd, £6m represents a decent fee for a player who is not in Erik ten Hag’s plans and who only had less than a year left on his contract. Al Nassr, meanwhile, are getting an experienced Brazil international who should help them challenge Al Ittihad for the Saudi title next season.

Telles, who originally joined Man Utd in October 2020 when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was in charge, becomes the first senior player to be sold by the Red Devils this summer. David de Gea, Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe have already departed, although they left on free transfers following the end of their contracts.

Telles is not the only player who will be sold by Man Utd this summer as Ten Hag continues to reshape his squad. The likes of Scott McTominay, Donny van de Beek and Anthony Elanga could also leave.

Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga will join Nottingham Forest in a £15million deal after the forward agreed with Cristiano Ronaldo’s assessment of United’s youngsters

Nottingham Forest are close to completing a £15million deal for Manchester United forward Anthony Elanga.

The 21-year-old Sweden international was a great admirer of Cristiano Ronaldo, with the two players Old Trafford teammates prior to the latter ending his relationship with United by mutual consent in November last year.

Elanga has been a peripheral figure under Erik ten Hag and has started just one match this calendar year – the EFL Cup victory at home to Charlton in January. Having been handed his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a regular under interim coach Ralf Rangnick, his United career had fizzled out.

The forward is currently in the United States with United for pre-season but it is understood he will return home for a medical. Elanga did not find the net for the Red Devils last season but had attracted interest from multiple clubs, but it is Forest who look set to clinch his signature.

The admiration that Elanga had for Ronaldo and his work rate was clear, adding: “He means a lot to me. He has helped me a lot not only on the pitch but off it as well. He is an inspiration, not only to me but to all the young players at United. Sometimes it’s just me and him at the gym.”

Elanga continued on whether his opinion of the Portuguese star had changed following the manner of his Old Trafford exit: “No, not so much. Because when I’m with him, he hasn’t changed. He is still Cristiano Ronaldo to me. He has helped me a lot.”

Ronaldo said: “The hunger. They [young players] have things more easily. Everything is easy. They don’t suffer, they don’t care. I don’t mean just Man United, but all teams. They are not the same as my generation.

“But we cannot blame them. It is part of the life of the new generation, the new technologies which distract them from other things. They are not the same. They listen, but they hear one side [and it goes out the other ear]. It doesn’t surprise me, but it is a shame.

While those comments may have drawn a degree of controversy, Ronaldo’s former teammate Elanga, 20, admitted that he understood the criticisms. The Sweden international forward said: “Cristiano talks about young players in general.

“We are a new generation. I am always 100 per cent focused on what I am doing, but I can understand what he is saying.

“There are a lot of phones and a lot of technology. It’s quite easy for young players to get distracted and lose focus. I always focus 100 per cent on my job and what I do. Young players at United are listening, but I can understand what he is saying.”

Mauricio Pochettino says Raheem Sterling with have an ‘important’ role to play in his Chelsea side going forward.

The England international joined the Blues from Manchester City last summer but endured a difficult first season back in London, scoring just six times following the £50million move.

The 28-year-old is among those at Chelsea who will now get a clean slate following Pochetttino’s arrival at Stamford Bridge

‘I think he’s an important player for us. He’s in our plan,’ Pochettino said. ‘He can provide to the team many different things. We are confident we can get the best from him to help the team to achieve what we want.

Sterling’s drop-off in form last season resulted in him being dropped from the England squad with the forward revealing a change in diet took its toll on him.

‘In the season I changed a bit of my diet,’ Sterling explained.

‘I went to do something a little bit different I hadn’t done before and I had a little bit more kilogrammes on me that I haven’t had before.‘I think I was probably carrying a bit of extra weight, I had a few hamstring problems and probably towards the end of the season the hamstring was playing up again, and that was it; and me and the manager made a decision together to try and get the hamstring right.

France’s National Union of Professional Footballers (UNFP) has slammed Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) after the Ligue 1 champions excluded Kylian Mbappe from their pre-season tour to Asia.

His being left out of the squad came as a contract standoff between the forward and the club rumbles on.

The 24-year-old France captain has been put up for sale by PSG, according to media reports, after relations between the two parties soured last month.

Mbappe previously said he would not renew his contract, which expires at the end of next season, meaning he can leave for free in June 2024.

But PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi has said they would not let Mbappe, the French top-flight’s highest goalscorer for the last five seasons, go for free.

“These players —- all of them —- must enjoy the same working conditions as the rest of the professional workforce,” the UNFP, the main trade union for professional football players in France, said in a lengthy statement on Saturday.

“The UNFP feels it will be useful to remind managers that putting pressure on an employee —- via the deterioration of their working conditions, for example —- to force them to leave or accept what the employer wants constitutes moral harassment.

’The French law firmly condemns this sort of harassment.

“So, yes, the UNFP reserves the right to take civil and criminal action against any club that behaves in this way,” the statement said.

PSG have won nine of the last 11 Ligue 1 titles, but their domestic success has not been matched in the UEFA Champions League.

That is a trophy the Parisian club have never won in spite of all their investment in the squad.

PSG face the dilemma of allowing Mbappe to run down the final year of his contract and being unable to recoup their investment on him.

They spent 180 million euros (200.2 million dollars) in 2017 to sign him from AS Monaco.

Mbappe has been linked with a move to record 14-time European champions Real Madrid.
