Gervonta Davis Predicts Knockout Round for Frank Martin Fight

Baltimore native Gervonta Davis will return to action after a more than 15-month hiatus following his match with Ryan Garcia. ‘Tank’ is slated to square off against Frank Martin within days. Both boxers have perfect records and have never lost a fight in their professional careers. Ahead of their showdown on June 15th, there is a lot of buzz among fans surrounding the contest.

Davis has recently stirred up a conversation online as he set a particular round to knock out Martin. ‘Tank’ is one of the finest lightweight boxers of today’s generation, with a 29-0 record, and an astonishing 27 knockout victory count. But it takes something else to predict the knockout round of your opponent days before the fight. It requires the genius of Muhammad Ali.

Former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali was notorious for foreseeing his opponent’s knockout round before the fight. He was really accurate about it. Similarly to the legendary boxer, ‘Tank’ also predicted Martin’s knockout round.

Recently, Davis took to X and just wrote, “9!!”. Boxing fans quickly understood the boxer had mentioned the round when he would send Martin to sleep. Interestingly, this knockout saga has a twist in between.

During several interviews leading up to the fight day, both boxers asserted they were ending the bout through a knockout. Not too long ago, Martin was asked if he still stands by his words, and he said, “Yeah, you know like, Tank can be knocked out. You know, he ain’t exempt from getting knocked out. So if he getting there, act up, he gonna run into something. Or I might go get him.” 

Both men sound confident to end the clash via knockout. Amidst this banter between the two, Ryan Garcia has also stepped in to give his verdict on the subject.

Ryan Garcia came off a spectacular victory against Devin Haney in April. It is still unclear, though, who won the fight as Garcia tested positive for using a banned performance-enhancing drug. However, it is still being looked at. So, for the time being, Garcia can consider it a win. Moving on, he even took to his X account and predicted who would get knocked out between Davis and Martin.

‘King Ryan’ wrote in a post, “I will bet 1 million that Gervonta will KO frank martin within 7 rounds I love frank but the truth is the truth”. Garcia also seized this opportunity to challenge Errol Spence Jr. for a battle. Coming back to the topic, Garcia believes Tank’s powerful blow would put Martin to sleep on the ground. Although Tank is the betting favorite, Martin has never been defeated in his professional career, and has an 18-0 record, with 12 knockouts. So, the fight can go either way.

The stage is set for the June 15th clash at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. American fans can also stream the fight on Amazon Prime PPV.

The biggest fight of 2024 is now in the rear-view after Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become undisputed heavyweight champion on May 18 in Saudi Arabia. The fight was another in the long list of massive showdowns that boxing has produced over the past few years.

A rematch between Usyk and Fury is now on the books, with the clash set for Dec. 21. The fight will again be held in Saudi Arabia, which has become the new home of the biggest fights in the sport.

The next “big name” set for action in the coming weeks is Gervonta “Tank” Davis, one of boxing’s biggest stars and most talented fighters. The heavy-hitting Davis is set to defend his WBA lightweight title against talented boxer Frank Martin on June 15 in Las Vegas. There are plenty of intriguing options for Davis in the future but he’ll have to come through with the win against Martin to maintain leverage in future negotiations for bigger fights.

In a strange pairing that will intrigue a different audience, former UFC stars Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal will meet in the boxing ring on July 6, a spiritual successor to their ceremonial BMF championship fight at UFC 244 in 2019.

Also set for the summer was one of the strangest, yet most intriguing fights on the boxing calendar, former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was set return to the boxing ring at age 58 against social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul, 27, on Netflix on July 20. Unfortunately, a medical issue for Tyson has forced the fight to be postponed with a new date still to be announced.

Anthony Joshua vs Daniel Dubois: Talks begins for British heavyweight fight

Heavyweight Anthony Joshua has begun talks to fight fellow Briton Daniel Dubois in September.

Joshua, 34, is expected to fight at Wembley Stadium on 21 September and was ringside to watch Dubois beat Filip Hrgovic last Saturday in Saudi Arabia.

Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren confirmed talks were under way.

Dubois, 26, stopped Hrgovic in their IBF ‘interim’ title fight, putting himself in prime position to be called as the next mandatory challenger to Oleksandr Usyk.

Ukrainian Usyk has requested his IBF belt not be stripped so the undisputed title can remain on the line when he fights Tyson Fury in their rematch on 21 December.

If the IBF decides to strip Usyk, Dubois could be elevated to world champion and that could then make a fight with Joshua a title bout.

Joshua is on a four-fight winning streak and is already a two-time unified world champion.

After losing those world titles in successive defeats by Usyk, Joshua has rebuilt himself in fine fashion, producing three stoppages in his four wins.

Dubois too has been on the comeback trail with two victories since failing in his own bid to dethrone Usyk in August 2023.

The Londoner stopped Jarrell Miller and Hrgovic, the latter being a fight Dubois was an underdog in.

Gervonta Davis is one of the greatest boxers in the lightweight division, and some would even say the best. The Baltimore puncher is about to enter the ring against undefeated Frank Martin on June 15 at MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. However, as the fight night creeps closer, Davis reflects on his fight against Ryan Garcia.

The duo squared off against each other at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, following a long drawn rivalry, producing one of the biggest money makers in 2023. Despite Garcia leading the scorecards in the early rounds, Davis expertly dropped Garcia in the second round by dodging his left hook and countering with a straight left. This was followed by a perfectly placed body shot in the seventh that forced Garcia to quit. So, in the wake of the Martin fight, Davis reveals his winning strategy while appearing in an interview with PBC.

Yesterday, Premier Boxing Champions shared a clip of the interview with Davis on X, with the caption reading, “[Gervonta Davis] has such a good ring IQ that he turns his opponents’ biggest weapons into his own winning strategy”. Meanwhile, in the clip, the interviewer probed the Baltimore native about his headlining fight against Garcia.

In response, the 29-year-old highlighted Garcia kept going back to his left hook, so Davis used it against Garcia. ‘Tank’ said, “He just kept on throwing the same punch. Kept on the same punch and he was right there for everything.” However, it’s worth mentioning that Davis had forced Garcia to adhere to a rehydration clause, which left the 25-year-old drained.

Not to mention, the fight happened at a catchweight of 136 pounds! While Garcia was used to fighting at a similar weight, the rehydration clause played a key role in giving Davis the advantage. In contrast, when Garcia took on Devin Haney at a much higher weight, Garcia seemed much more effective and powerful. Nevertheless, Ryan Garcia has accused Davis of playing with him before the fight.

Ryan Garcia highlights boxing mind games

While appearing in a podcast with Patrick Bet David on January 31 this year, the Victorville native reflected on the days leading up to the Gervonta Davis fight. He said, “They played with me”, alleging Davis kept moving the date for the fight. Initially, he wanted to do the fight in October, but then, it was moved to December.

Then, “They can’t do December cuz his birthday he likes to celebrate his birthday”, said Garcia. When a January fight was decided, Garcia claims Davis argued for a tune-up fight first. What’s more, Garcia even roped in Floyd Mayweather, claiming Mayweather pushed Davis to play psychological games. “Floyd was telling them all these things”, Garcia said. “The rehydration clauses… putting all these stipulations on me… You can’t do this, you can’t do that. The ring needs to be this size. It’s Davis-Garcia it’s not… all these things were all by Floyd”, Garcia added.

With a mere 12 days left in the fight against Frank Martin, Gervonta Davis looked back at the Ryan Garcia fight and how he won it. However, as far as Garcia is concerned, he could win against Davis, so a potential fight between them could be on the horizon.

Evander Holyfield is regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers the world has ever seen. Despite having retired 10 years ago, the four-time world heavyweight champion nevertheless maintains a sizable following on Instagram, with 1.2 million followers. The 61-year-old posted the video with the caption, “If you don’t take no chances, then you’re not a performer. Performers always take chances.”

“That Gash was Too Deep to Heal”: Fans Gutted as Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov Fight Card Suffers a Major Loss

HE Turki Alalshikh‘s first endeavor outside Saudi Arabia has met with an early setback. Tim Tszyu has his comeback fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr. derailed. The Australian fighter had signed up to feature on the lucrative Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov undercard. But it seems the scars from his last battle were too deep to heal this soon.

Tszyu, 29, was coming off a close split decision loss against Sebastian Fundora, where he dropped his WBO light middleweight title. While he had started the fight strongly, the challenger’s elbow opened a cut on his head. That turned out to be the turning point of the fight as blood continued to gush down his face, which impaired his vision and kept his one hand busy. Many believed ‘The Soul Taker’ had done enough to bag the win, but the judges saw the fight differently. It seems his miseries have yet to end, as he withdrew from the August 3 fight.

Dan Rafael turned to his X handle and broke the unfortunate news to the fans. He pointed out that the doctors dissuaded Tszyu, at 24-1, from entering the squared circle this early as he had yet to recover from the nasty cut.

Rafael wrote, “Per source, Tim Tszyu has been forced to withdraw from his Aug. 3 fight vs. Vergil Ortiz Jr. on the #CrawfordMadrimov mega card being put on by @Turki_alalshikh in LA. Doc ruled him out due to terrible cut suffered vs. Fundora not being healed enough for him to fight.”

This has left the fans in a tight spot, as they were eagerly waiting for the exciting fight between two knockout artists. So, they put themselves in playmakers’ shoes and pitched the names of those they thought could replace the Sydney native.

Fans try to play matchmaker for Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov

A fan called Tszyu’s pull-out “unfortunate,” as they were excited about the middleweight boxer’s comeback. But it had only been two months since Tszyu entered the boxing ring last. They admitted, “Unfortunate news, I was really looking forward to seeing Tszyu’s return.”

A user wondered how the organizers could call off the fight when a couple of months still separated the fight. They declared, “How can they call it already with months left?”

Someone believed the cut was too deep to heal this quickly but they were still disappointed as the fight offered guaranteed fireworks. They announced frustratingly, “Damn man I knew it that gash was too deep to heal that fast smh I was low key looking forward to that fight over all of them.”

A comment tried to insert Jermell Charlo as a replacement. The two share a history, as Tszyu was Charlo’s WBO title mandatory, and when ‘Iron Man’ decided to fight Canelo Alvarez instead, the sanctioning body stripped him and elevated Tszyu as the champion. The comment read, “Jermell vs Vergil lets see it.”

Similarly, another fan picked Serhii Bohachuk, who is the current interim WBC light middleweight title holder. They said, “Or Ortiz Jr vs Bohachuk yes please!”

Lastly, someone believed the fight was booked prematurely, without giving Tszyu a proper chance to heal and train. They expressed, “Soon as it was announced I said the fight seems too soon, damn.”

Notably, Tszyu and Fundora’s fight contract didn’t include a rematch clause, as the latter was inserted in place of Keith Thurman. Therefore, he has to work his way to the top now. Meanwhile, Fundora has vacated the WBO strap and is in talks to fight Errol Spence Jr. now to bag a heavy paycheck.

WBC Downgrades Terence Crawford to Welterweight Champion in Recess

Terence Crawford’s days at welterweight appear to be numbered, and sanctioning bodies seem to feel the same way, too.

On Monday, the WBC downgraded the former undisputed 147-pound titleholder to “champion in recess.”

Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs) has not fought since dominating Errol Spence Jr. in a ninth-round stoppage last July for all of the division’s titles.

The Nebraska native Crawford’s next fight is scheduled for Aug. 3 at 154 pounds, against WBA titleholder Israil Madrimov. A WBO interim belt will also be on the line, and by the time the fight takes place, it could be for the full belt, as current champion Sebastian Fundora (who also holds the WBC junior middleweight title) is expected to be stripped of his WBO status as he eyes a showdown against Spence instead of moving forward with his mandatory fight.

“The WBC Board of Governors has voted in favor of accepting our proud WBC welterweight champion, Terence Crawford, to be placed as champion in recess in the welterweight division,” the WBC said in a statement. “The WBC Board also voted in favor of officially sanctioning Crawford vs. Madrimov as a final elimination bout for the mandatory position in the super welterweight division. Terence Crawford will inform the WBC which division he wishes to compete in after the August fight.”

The WBC did not outline the next steps for its current interim welterweight titleholder Mario Barrios, who earned the belt in September during a unanimous decision win against Yordenis Ugas. Barrios defended his interim title against Fabian Maidana in May.

Crawford, 36, has fought as a welterweight since 2018 and maintained that a move to 154 pounds was imminent.

In November, the IBF stripped Crawford of his title and elevated Jaron Ennis to its titleholder.

Last week, Brian Norman knocked out Giovanni Santillan and was awarded the WBO interim welterweight title.

Eimantas Stanionis is currently the WBA “regular” welterweight titlist, and the sanctioning body is the next organization set to make their ruling around Crawford’s status as division titleholder.

Bouts with the best facing the best have become a rare occurrence in the sport of boxing, but one groundbreaking matchup might be on the horizon. Gervonta Davis is about to square off against Frank Martin on June 15. However, that’s not the fight that has piqued the interest among fans. Then which one is it? Well, it involves Ukrainian boxing star Vasyl Lomachenko!

See, the thing is ‘Loma’ defeated Australia’s George Kambosos Jr. just the other day, and that too, in an extremely destructive fashion. The performance from the Ukrainian seems to have caught ‘Tank’ Davis’ eye, as he hopped on social media to call for a potential fight in a now-deleted tweet. However, that wasn’t the case when Davis made his pro debut, as revealed by coach Calvin Ford in an interview with Fight Hype. But the Baltimore coach emphasized that things have changed and Davis has gotten a lot better.

Gervonta Davis is coming off a one-year-plus hiatus because of his hit-and-run case and is treating the Martin fight as nothing more than a tune-up fight for more serious opponents. However, the potential Lomachenko fight—that one seems serious for Davis. So, when the reporter asked Davis’ coach about the fight, Ford recollected Lomachenko’s second professional bout against Orlando Salido.

Ford said, after seeing that fight, “[Tank] said, ‘No, I ain’t messing with [that]’. And I said that—when we first turned pro with Floyd. Like, I ain’t messing with him…”. However, as Gervonta Davis started climbing the lightweight division’s ladder, defeating everyone who stood before him, Ford claims, “They said, ‘No, I don’t want to do that’.”

According to the Baltimore coach, Vasyl Lomachenko is among the top four boxers in the lightweight division. However, it’s unclear when this fight may transpire, despite Davis’ own desire for it. Regardless, the question now is, what does ‘Loma’ think about the fight against Davis?

Before the Ukrainian went down under to conquer Kambosos Jr. he had thrown hands with Davis’ biggest rival Devin Haney, a fight that saw ‘The Dream’ edge the results by a hair. While there were talks of a rematch, nothing seems to have materialized, so with Lomachenko’s latest win, Davis might be looking to one-up Haney by defeating ‘Loma’ by a mile.

However, defeating the Ukrainian boxer is no child’s play, as it became evident during the Kambosos Jr. fight. Nevertheless, hearing about Davis’ call out right after his win, Lomachenko said, “You know, during my boxing career I’ve never run around and I’ve always taken fights. After I rest a little bit, we can talk about the future.”

Calvin Ford is an elite coach, so if he says Gervonta Davis is ready for Vasyl Lomachenko, there’s not much to counter the statement, especially looking at Davis’ performances. However, Davis will have to defeat Frank Martin on June 15 to get to Lomachenko, which is yet to happen.

Gervonta Davis says he is open to a ‘massive’ rematch against Ryan Garcia, but not at the weight ‘King Ryan’ has called for.

Davis and Garcia first fought just over a year ago, with ‘Tank’ scoring a seventh round stoppage with a sneaky body shot. Much has been made around the fact that Garcia drained himself to make the 136lb catchweight and was only able to put on an extra 10lbs for a second weigh-in on the day of the fight.

‘Tank’ has not been in the ring since that night. Garcia on the other hand had a career best win and performance, defeating Devin Haney by majority decision. The social media sensation’s joy was short lived however, returning two positive drug tests for banned substance Ostarine.

In a surprise to many, Davis has backed the 25 year-old and has offered his support online.

“Stay up kid. Continue to be you. We’ll see each other in the future. I don’t believe he’s a cheater.”

Even with the controversy surrounding the Haney win, a Tank-Garcia rematch is perhaps the biggest fight in the sport.

In an interview with ES News, the WBA lightweight champion is keen on running it back, but at only 140lbs, not the 143lbs Garcia suggested.

“Yeah [it’s a massive fight]. But not at 143, why 143? Probably at 140, that’s the next weight class up from 135, it’s the weight class he fights at.

Let’s do 140 and he can rehydrate back up to 150, or the most 152, I’m 135 brother.”

The 29-year-old returns to action on June 15 when he defends his WBA title against Frank Martin on a card also featuring David Benavidez making his light-heavyweight debut against Oleksandr Gvozdyk.

In 2011, Tyson and Lakiha Spicer welcomed their second child into the world, whom they affectionately named Morocco Tyson. Adding to his diverse family tree, Tyson also shares a son with Sol Xochitl born in 2002, named Miguel Tyson, who has pursued a career in music.
