Boots, Fundora, or Madrimov Rematch: Who Should Terence Crawford Fight Next? Fans Debate as They Answer the Burning Question

Terence Crawford dethroned Israil Madrimov winning the WBA title at 154 pounds. Now that he is the world champion in four divisions, ‘Bud’ has a lot of options on how to set up his upcoming fights. All eyes were on Bud to win his bout against Madrimov so he could cap off his illustrious boxing career with a mega fight against Mexican boxing sensation Canelo Alvarez. Since this match-up is still on hold, fans have suggested some great prospects for the Omaha native.

Crawford has been undefeated throughout his professional boxing career, with a 41-0 winning streak. So when DAZN boxing introduced the question of Terence Crawford’s next opponent in an X post, the options were aplenty for the boxing community to choose from. Many believe that it wouldn’t be safe for him to step up to 168 pounds to fight Canelo as he has just moved up to super welterweight and needs time to adjust to that weight class first. But let’s look at other suitable options for him.

The best possible options for Terence Crawford

‘Bud’ cemented his status as the undisputed champion in the welterweight division when he defeated Errol Spence Jr. last summer. The highly anticipated bout at T-Mobile Arena ended up with Crawford putting on a dominant performance against Spence. There’s no denying that Spence Jr. is a tremendous boxer. So perhaps a rematch between the two would make for an entertaining match to witness.

Then there is another thought of seeing ‘Bud’ running it again versus Israil Madrimov. It is important to note that the Uzbek boxer is the first one to push Crawford for the full 12 rounds since 2016. The scorecards read 116-112, 115-113 and 115-113. Many thought that Madrimov at least ought to have received more favorable scores from the judges, including Eddie Hearn, Madrimov’s promoter. This certainly opens up the prospect of a rematch between the two. Let’s find out what other suggestions fans have for Crawford.

A cluster of titans for the champion 

There has been a lot of debate about a clash between Terence Crawford and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis. The 27-year-old is a formidable fighter at 147 pounds and has been looking for a clash with the former undisputed welterweight champion. A boxing enthusiast suggested this matchup, but he also has doubts if it would ever happen. “It should be Boots at 147 but that won’t happen,” noted the user.

26-year-old Sebastian Fundora is another great prospect for Crawford. Interestingly, he is the WBC and WBO champion at 154 pounds. Crawford’s road to becoming the undisputed champion in the super welterweight division would be simpler as he already has the WBA title. However, currently, Fundora is slated to fight Errol Spence Jr. in October. One fan suggested, “The winner between Fundora and Spence, then Canelo.” 

Many boxing fans believe that Madrimov won the fight against ‘Bud’. One such disappointed fan outright dismissed the notion of watching Crawford compete against anyone else, and simply wrote, “Rematch he lost!”

Furthermore, Tim Tszyu was set to face Virgil Ortiz Jr. at super welterweight on the Crawford-Madrimov undercard on August 3rd. However, Tszyu had to pull out of the fight due to medical reasons. Another fan wants ‘Bud’ to fight either of the two or Fundora, “Vergil, Tszyu or Fundora.”

Spence Jr. has been rumored to retire from the sport after a few fights. Even Crawford is inching closer to his retirement. It would be a thrilling fight to watch these two go at it again. One such comment suggesting this read, “Spence rematch.”

In the aftermath of the break-in, Celina revealed in the Instagram story that he needed to “focus on getting sober” otherwise, she would be forced to limit his access to their children. “Ryan needs to focus on getting sober. I do not want anyone who is always under the influence around my children and causing harm and destroying our home physically,” Celina stated in one of her stories. To make matters worse, Garcia had also sent her threatening NSFW messages in her DMs. Now, Garcia’s ex-wife has decided to put her “foot down” and will be involving “lawyers” to make sure his visits to the house are “supervised”.

With his co-parenting duties up in the air due to his troublesome behavior, Ryan Garcia has issued a heartfelt apology to his ex-wife. Furthermore, it got a stamp of approval from Sylvester Stallone’s brother who felt it was a genuine effort from the Victorville native to make amends.

In the apology video, Garcia said, ” I woke up the next morning regretting everything I did, and everything I said about Andrea. And, I came out here just to say ‘I am sorry’. Andrea you are the mother of my children and will always have love and respect for.” With that being said, he took back all the allegations he made against her about “stealing money” and “cheating” on him.

Garcia and Celina publicly announced the news of their divorce in January of this year. “Irreconcilable differences” drifted the couple apart who got hitched up in 2021. The now-separated couple have a daughter and a son, Bela and Henry. “I finally decided to get some help, I’m going to rehab. In the next couple of months you’re gonna see a change,” He further said.

Furthermore, Garcia revealed that he was finding it difficult to cope with setbacks in his personal and professional lives, and was deeply sorry for his erratic and unpredictable behavior. He then expressed his wish to return to normalcy after rehab, where he sees himself boxing again, and leading a stable family life co-parenting his kids.

Feeling the genuineness of his apology, Frank Stallone, Sylvester Stallone’s brother supported him in his initiative to get help for his declining mental health. “It takes a real man to take responsibility for their actions. We are all proud of you,” Stallone wrote on X. Meanwhile, Garcia’s family has also expressed concern about his mental health.

Family Matters!

Garcia’s recent racist and Islamophobic statements didn’t go down well with his parents. In a statement, they assured the wider public that they would encourage their kid to get “necessary help” as he is struggling with “mental health” issues. Moreover, Garcia’s mother has publicly disapproved of his son’s friend circle, insinuating they were “not helping” him during such difficult times.

I know there’s people around him in his circle right now that it’s not within my power to say, okay. you need to leave now! Um, you’re not helping and even though they think they are, they’re not. Because every effort we’ve made has been thwarted because they think they know best and undermine the efforts of his family and his parents. Gervonta Davis vs Vasyl Lomachenko is close to becoming official with November date in sight

Ukrainian lightweight Vasyl Lomachenko was once at the very top of the world and looking indestructible, just like Gervonta Davis feels today. At a certain point during that great moment for ‘Loma’, even people like Joe Rogan were talking about him for his skills. Right now, it doesn’t feel like anybody can defeat Gervonta Davis, which is one of the main reasons promoters want this fight to happen in the first place. If anybody has the skillset to potentially defeat ‘Tank‘, that man is Vasyl Lomachenko. Because if Loma finds his best form again by November, we could be in for one of the best fights of 2024. There is no question about that and everybody who loves boxing would watch it.

During a recent interview with Fights ATW, legendary promoter Bob Arum revealed he has been talking to Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas. It was a meeting at a restaurant in Beverley Hills. That’s exactly where Arum dropped the bomb, one of the fights every boxing fan would want to see. This is what he told Fights ATW during the interview” “We discussed Loma. Loma is coming here (this week), and we will sit down, and he will tell us what he wants. My feeling is, reading Egis, that it’s a Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis fight. It’s a Vegas fight, MGM or T-Mobile. We’d decide a date where there are openings.”

So, November 2024 in Las Vegas. That is the potential date but Arum did mention that this was the first time they talked about it. We will likely have a few months worth of negotiations before we get a final date and a venue. As far as where this fight might take place, the two options are the MGM Grand or the T-Mobile Arena. If this is announced over the next few weeks, we can already start speculating and wait for the show these two will put on during the press conferences leading up to the event. We are ready for another great fight to close out the year.

However, while one must acknowledge Davis’ skills and contribution, the boxer from Newark feels he is deserving of praise and is a threat to the former’s legacy. So, in his latest interview with Cigar Talk, Stevenson highlighted that the perception built around Davis’ knockouts has downplayed his skills. In addition, Shakur also called out an unbeaten Mexican boxer with 27 knockouts!

In his last fight against Artem Harutyunyan, Shakur Stevenson showed excellent defense and vision. Shakur would know Artem’s limits, lean back in proximity, bob and weave, and let his opponent punch the air. His defense and vision were infested with confidence and accuracy. In one word, it was unflinching. So, yes, while Gervonta has the ability to KO his opponents, Stevenson has his defense and IQ.

But, the boxer from Newark complains that in light of Davis’ power, fans underestimate his techniques. “People are blessed with different abilities. He’s blessed with a God-given ability that if he cracks you, nine times out of ten you’re gonna go down. I’m blessed with amazing eyes,” began Shakur Stevenson.

“I can see punches coming my way and get away from them,” added Stevenson on Cigar Talk. “They probably are judging me from a scale of him. At the end of the day, he’s a great fighter, he’s a special fighter, but I’m special in my own right too.”

However, as per the updates available, Shakur Stevenson may not get his hands on Gervonta Davis soon as ‘Tank’ is in the process of sealing a deal with Vasyl Lomachenko. For that reason, Stevenson called out a different opponent.

Shakur Stevenson calls out the third-best Lightweight boxer in the world

The title defense against Artem Harutyunyan was Shakur Stevenson’s last fight with Top Rank Boxing. And he thinks, among others, Mayweather Promotions can be a viable option given they offer him a deal better than the $15 million Top Rank offered the boxer recently. But, while Shakur decides on his next promoter, the boxer is sure about his next opponent. So, on Cigar Talk, he called out the third-best Lightweight as per The Ring Magazine.

“Where is William Zepada? Where is he? That’s the fight we need. We going to keep hyping him up to fight these guys that he’s stopping in three/four rounds because he throwing volume, and nonstop punching these dudes ain’t in the shape that I’ll be in,” said Shakur Stevenson. “If ‘Tank’ gon’ go fight Lomachenko, why can’t I fight maybe the harder fight?”

Just when we started talking about Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Gervonta Davis, analyst, Stephen A. Smith claimed that the Ukrainian boxer was deficient in power. And according to Smith, “If you can’t punch with power,” you do not have a chance against Gervonta Davis. The former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua‘s career is going through a resurgence of sorts. And there was no way he was going to miss the iconic British garage group So Solid Crew in action at the Kool Kids Fest in London. The group while performing decided to invite onto the stage the former unified heavyweight champion to recite a few verses.

The crowd went wild as the 34-year-old former heavyweight champion was introduced to the stage by the lead singer of the hip-hop group Lisa Maffia. AJ joined group members Lisa Maffia and Romeo on stage and rapped and danced along to the raging hit song of the 2000s “21 Seconds”.

His MC skills were on point as he didn’t miss a beat or fluff his lyrics. After the electrifying performance by the old-school hip-hop group, Joshua and the crew went go-karting. AJ was in the driver’s seat with Lisa sitting on the passenger side as he was trying to dodge his way out of bumps from fellow drivers.

This wasn’t the first time the former heavyweight champion has grooved with the So Solid Crew, as he performed the rap of ‘21 Seconds’ back in 2020 at the Garage Nation festival as well. He has also previously shown his passion for home-grown music in the UK by rapping along to Skepta and JME’s record “That’s Not Me” at an event in Dubai four years ago. This time too, Anthony Joshua shocked the crowd with his impressive rapping skills.

Way Ahead for Anthony Joshua

Since his return in 2023, Joshua has already changed his trainer twice. Starting with Derrick James, under whose stewardship he won the fights against Jermaine Franklin and Robert Helenius, he then found his perfect match in compatriot Ben Davison who led him to two early-round stoppage victories against Otto Wallin and Francis Ngannou.

Now, the road is clear again for Anthony Joshua to become a world champion for the third time. Due to Usyk relinquishing his IBF belt, and it being passed down to his mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois, Joshua will have a chance to fight for the title on September 21, 2024, in Wembley Stadium.

The all-British showdown promises an exciting watch for the boxing fans. Joshua even showed some feistiness and his violent streak in a recent press interview where he threatened to throw a chair at Dubois’ face. “I’ll throw this f***ing chair across your face. Can Gervonta Davis beat the Ukrainian boxing legend Vasyl Lomachenko? Who better to answer this question better than someone who has firsthand experience in successfully achieving this endeavor? And who might that be? You don’t have to guess. It’s the WBO super lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez!

Lopez and Lomachenko, the two elites in the lightweight division, went toe-to-toe back in October 2020. After a hard-fought twelve-round slugfest, Lopez emerged victorious via a unanimous decision to win the WBA and WBO straps. So, as talks of a potential fight between Davis and Lomachenko are swirling around, Teofimo Lopez was the obvious choice for Fight Hype to get the predictions.

Teofimo Lopez thinks Vasyl Lomachenko has slowed down

Speaking to ‘The Takeover’, the reporter’s first question was whether ‘Loma’ has slowed down since Lopez defeated him. It didn’t take long for the Brooklyn native to respond, “Yes, Lomachenko has slowed down since I last fought him”. But hey, even Lopez couldn’t help but give props to the right-handed southpaw, highlighting his achievements in the sport—in such a short time.

Turning to Davis, Lopez had an interesting idea as to why Davis has decided to face the Ukrainian now of all times. “Tank and his team are going after that because they follow the Mayweather route. The route is to get them when you’re winning—you’re going to win the fight. So, I’m going to follow the script on that and I believe Tank will win”, Lopez mused.

However, the route to victory won’t be an easy one! Speaking further about his own experience dealing with the Ukrainian, Lopez said, “He’s not easy, man. The mental toughness on there, [Davis will] never face [anybody like Loma] whether in sparing or whatnot,” which Lopez believes Davis will realize once he gets in the ring with Loma.

But that’s just Teofimo Lopez, who managed to defeat Lomachenko. But what about others who have never stepped opposite the Ukrainian?

Raymond Muratalla reveals how Lomachenko could beat Gervonta Davis

Undefeated lightweight contender Raymond Muratalla is out to make a name for himself in the division. And just might be able to do so in his upcoming skirmish against Tevin Farmer on July 13. But before that, he spoke to Boxing Scene about Lomachenko’s chances of beating Davis when the two fight each other.

First of all, Muratalla holds Davis in high regard, going as far as naming him the best lightweight in the world. As for his predictions, Muratalla said, “Tank and Loma’s fight will be a good one, and I think if Loma can box throughout the fight, he can do something. But all in all, I believe Tank will win. I think his power will be too much for Lomachenko in later rounds of the fight.”

With that said, people haven’t completely counted out Vasyl Lomachenko, but the prevailing opinion seems to side with Gervonta Davis winning the fight in the later rounds. But the beauty of boxing is, no one can really foresee what would happen when boxers step into the ring.

Starting with the pendant which was skull-shaped, the jeweler said, “We got two eight-carat diamonds for the eyes, 4-carat GIA certified Pink (for the nose), All the stones GIA. And, you got 40-pointers in the mouth,” emphasizing the fact that the finely-cut diamonds were certified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA).

Then further describing the chain which also had a series of tiny skulls embedded in it, Wafi, from Jewelry Limited, commented, “Necklace, 25-pointer eyes. 20-pointer nose.” But that wasn’t all.

A photograph of Anthony Joshua and two-time English heavyweight titleholder John McDermott has gained considerable traction since it came. Fans and followers have been joining in droves to share their thoughts and views. Interestingly, a common theme clouded the overall tone of the comments. Most of the users had something or another to say about the first fight between McDermott and Tyson Fury.

Given the fact that British boxing is keenly looking forward to an all-English clash between ‘AJ’ and ‘The Gypsy King’ hopefully by next year, the snapshot seems to have gained more resonance with followers. Many expect Joshua to be back in the ring by September. He may face either Daniel Dubois, Zhilei Zhang, or, who knows, even Joseph Parker. McDermott, on the other hand, never went back to boxing after he won the vacant English heavyweight title for the second time in 2013.

Michael Benson’s tweet read, “Anthony Joshua with Tyson Fury’s former foe John McDermott today.” The post features a screen grab of ‘AJ’s Instagram story. It displayed both the former unified heavyweight champion and ‘Bad Bad John’, as McDermott was known in the ring, standing together with their hands raised. At the bottom-right of the photo, a business message appears.

On Tuesday, June 25, it will be the fourteenth anniversary of the rematch between John McDermott and Tyson Fury. ‘The Gypsy King’ won the bout via technical knockout in the 9th round. However, it is their first square-off, which took place nearly a year before the rematch, that still sparks a heated debate among fans.

On September 11, 2009, at Essex’s Brentwood Center, ‘Big Bad John’ entered the ring opposite Tyson Fury. They clashed for the latter’s English heavyweight title. Fury continued his unbeaten track and won the match with a six-point difference, 98-92. However, the way the referee, who was also the match’s lone judge, scored came under heavy criticism.

Noted boxing writer James Slater wrote at the time. “…first the quite disgusting scoring of O’Connor must be addressed. How on earth he had Fury winning by a whopping SIX points in what everyone else saw as a close fight that the more experienced McDermott deserved to win is beyond me…..For what it’s worth, I had McDermott winning by three points,” said Slater.

Then a Tyson Fury fan also joined the party. According to them, ‘Big Bad John’ and ‘AJ’ might be the only two people who go around claiming they could beat Tyson Fury. But the reality is that neither of them could pull it off in the past, nor would they ever be able to do it in the future.

After losing the rematch to Tyson Fury, John McDermott continued for the next three years. On March 15, 2013, he once again became the English heavyweight champion. However, he never went for a title defense thereafter.

After that second-round KO win over Francis Ngannou, fans are eagerly looking forward to ‘AJ’s next move. According to Eddie Hearn, the former heavyweight champion might headline the September 21 Riyadh Season card at Wembley Stadium. As of now, Daniel Dubois appears as the frontrunner on the list of potential opponents. A win over Dubois will make Joshua the title holder for the third time. Additionally, he could be the first to challenge the winner of Tyson Fury-Oleksandr Usyk II.

Fans Left Jaw-Dropped as Gervonta Davis Remains the Last One Standing From PBC’s Legacy

Not every boxer has what it takes to overcome every adversity on their path to glory. Most fall quickly, others show great courage, but a few make it to the top. Over the years, Gervonta Davis has proven to be exactly that as he celebrated yet another victory, this time over Frank Martin in Las Vegas. And no one’s happier about it than his coach Calvin Ford!

So, the Baltimore boxing coach turned to social media today to share a picture featuring PBC greats from 2018, including Errol Spence Jr, Adrien Broner, Jermall Charlo, Jermell Charlo, and, of course, the man of the hour Gervonta Davis. And the last one on the far right was veteran boxer, Zab Judah. Most of the champions in the image were undefeated at the time except for Adrien Broner. However, things are very different today. This seems to have left fans reminiscing about the good old days, as they quickly highlighted Davis as the last man standing today!

Even though Gervonta Davis remains undefeated with each of his fights, getting him closer and closer to legendary status, the same can not be said about the rest of the folks in the picture. Spence Jr. hasn’t appeared in the ring since his devastating defeat at the hands of Terence Crawford. Broner’s attempt to make a comeback started well but quickly fell apart after his very recent embarrassing loss to Blair Cobbs.

Jermell Charlo seems to have fallen off since he lost his last fight against Canelo Alvarez in 2023. Yes, Jermall still has his zero intact, but his mental health issues and retirement talks suggest fans might not see him many more times in the ring again. So, that leaves Davis literally the last man standing. It is important to note that all the boxers in the image except for Adrien Broner and Zab Judah were the early signees under Al Haymon’s PBC. Touted as the next big stars in boxing, PBC promoted their fights with much pomp. However, just like PBC, their initial promise didn’t materialize into the boxing greats they were touted to be. That is everyone except Gervonta Davis.

Having said that, when fans discovered this picture posted by coach Calvin Ford on Instagram, this is what they said!

Coach Calvin Ford might have trained Davis to perfection, but he couldn’t do that for Broner and didn’t get the chance with Spence, even though he was happy to do it. Regardless, this fan hoped Ford would get the ‘Trainer of the Year’ award for his work with Davis. A user wrote, “You deserve coach of the year”. In 2023, the award went to Brian “BoMac” McIntyre for his work with Terence Crawford. Perhaps, if Davis beats Vasyl Lomachenko this year, Ford could get the honor.

The next user thought the picture was oozing power, as the user asked, “Do you know how powerful this picture is”? That picture does have a lot of champions in it, actually, all of them are.

Someone else highlighted how Davis was the only one in the picture who is still ruling over the sport. “It’s crazy how Tank is the last one Standing … damn”, wrote the user. Perhaps that’s the reason he is seen as the new face of boxing.

Another user reminisced about the days when these were the boxers on top of the food chain. “Good Ole Days & They All Still Tight As Hell Love This”, the user remarked. In fact, Broner even trained beside Davis for his recent Cobbs fight.

One eagle-eyed user pointed out ‘Tank’ is the only one in this picture who isn’t smiling, and is the only one undefeated. “Tank only one ain’t smiling only one ain’t loss DAMN,” the user wrote.

Things haven’t been going well for most of the boxers in the image, so perhaps this blast from the past would help them feel better or do better. As for Gervonta Davis, there is much left for that man to achieve.
