Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, didn’t seem to be aware of Devin Haney’s prior statements. When he found out about it during his interview with FightHype, he appeared surprised. Ellerbe also mentioned that the weight class disparity would be the key reason why this battle would not take place anytime soon.

Ellerbe murmured, “Cease it. They are in two distinct weight classes, to start, and I won’t even try to elaborate on that. Just stop the nonsense, they belong to two distinct weight classes. Now, I’m not saying that this isn’t a worthwhile struggle for those who—well, whatever you want to call it. But in the end, Tank could make thirty if Tank had to, okay? If Tank had to, he could manufacture thirty. Alright, he seems content at 35. Additionally, he stated unequivocally that Davis will not have his actions dictated to him. “Tank’s going to fight where he’s comfortable and do what he wants to do,” he continued.

Furthermore, he said that the altercation might have occurred when they were in the same weight class. But according to Ellerbe, Bob Arum would never take a fight on if he wasn’t positive that his fighter would win. At the time, Haney was contracted with Top Rank. Additionally, Haney appears to be moving forward with Ryan Garcia as his next opponent rather than holding out for “Tank” as their back-and-forth has resumed.

Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney have a long-standing rivalry that seems to have been reignited. Garcia disclosed in an interview with FightHype that talks about a possible fight had picked back up. This change in circumstances follows Garcia’s first focus adjustment to take on WBA super lightweight champion Rolly Romero.
