Beyond their shared training sessions at the WCC center, professional gymnasts Simone Biles and Zoe Miller have forged a friendship. The athletic pair competed together at the Gymnastics Core Hydration Classic in 2023, with Biles winning her eighth AA title and Miller failing to qualify for the Nationals. Outside of the gym, they have stayed close, whether it be at birthday parties when Biles referred to Miller as her “mini-me” or while Jonathan Owens was being supported in New York City.
In a recent interview with Vanity Fair, Biles expressed her gratitude to her staff and colleagues for their incredible support. And shortly after, Joe Miller responded to her Instagram praises.
Miller came into a USA Gymnastics Instagram post that included Simone’s squad statement from the Vanity Fair article. “I owe that to my teammates,” Biles remarked, going on, “but they keep it fun in the gym. At my age, I didn’t think I’d be having this much fun.” They don’t realize how much of a rock they have been to me. On her Instagram account, Miller reshared this and wrote, “I love her with my whole heart.”
On Miller’s birthday, Biles referred to her as “mini-me” and given her the new moniker “Baby Daughter Twin,” which quickly gained popularity. Miller’s birthday greeting echoed what Biles has always known—that Zoe is there for her. “Just a summary of our relationship…never stop being you,” she added. Although Biles is liked by many now and feels the same way in return, she also has a close relationship that she treasures.
After nearly giving up gymnastics, Chiles, an exceptional performer from UCLA, trained with Simone in Texas over the collegiate offseason. Chiles has taken a vacation from her college career to prepare for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, but at one point she said to herself, “This (Biles) girl is going to be my friend one day.”
That goal came true when Biles helped set up training in Texas before Tokyo. Subsequently, Chiles attended Biles and Owens’ small-scale wedding in Cabo, Mexico, and the two grew close. The strongest source of support and motivation in the dynamic world of gymnastics is still the camaraderie amongst colleagues.
