During her illustrious journey, Serena Williams has enjoyed a number of remarkable seasons on the women’s tour. However, it was the former tennis ace’s 2013 season that is considered one of the greatest in the history of the sport. While delivering consistent on-court performances, the WTA legend amassed 11 singles titles, including two Grand Slam triumphs, in that particular tennis calendar.
With 11 WTA singles titles in her bag, the American tennis legend reclaimed the world No. 1 status in singles and further managed to maintain the rankings till the end of the 2013 season. Serena Williams’ phenomenal achievement in that particular tennis calendar year also made her the first player to surpass the $10 million prize mark.
The former tennis ace, who had her best winning percentage of 95.1% in 2013, bagged a total prize money of $12,385,572 in that season. A decade has passed since Williams achieved the milestone, yet no other WTA player has been able to emulate it.
While no player has ever taken home this amount of prize money in a single season, a few well-known players on the women’s circuit have come very close to this mark.
