Perhaps that’s what he expects from old rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. The latter’s online spat with former charge Gervonta Davis (now Abdul Wahid) has been gaining considerable traction. So when checked for his views on the viral row, ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley gave his two bits. According to him, the established order should yield to the new paradigm.
First, Shane Mosley clarified that he likes both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gervonta Davis, as he settled down for an interview at the ‘The Art of Dialogue’. But he is aware of the ongoing issues between the two. Nevertheless, he could foresee where the trouble is perhaps emanating from. He said, “You know Floyd has a big ego where he wants to you know be the man on top, and Gervonta is trying to get on top, but it seems like he has to get from under Floyd because because Floyd’s a big man.”
So to explain it better, he went back to the understanding he shared with his son, Shane Mosley Jr. So he was always there for his son. They often spar together. However, at the end of the day, ‘Sugar’ Mosley ensures that he leaves some space for his son instead of smothering him with his shadow. So this appreciation extends to the level that, despite having a former world champion for a father, Mosley Jr. retains his own separate staff, trainer, and manager. However, he remained highly doubtful whether Mayweather Jr. would follow a similar suit.
“So Tank is kind of the you know it’s kind of the same thing, maybe because you know he’s too close to Floyd. Floyd’s like, you know, no, I’m the best. No, no, now it’s it’s no longer Floyd’s time it’s it’s Tank’s time. Now he’s the best he’s done…he’s all this. You gotta take a step back a little bit, but for Floyd, I don’t know if he knows how to do that,” said Shane Mosley. That was so far as how things stood between Mayweather Jr. and ‘Tank’ Davis. But whether a similar difference of opinion existed between Mosley and ‘The Money’?
The former three-division champion revealed that he already had many people asking him on social media why he disliked Floyd Mayweather Jr. so much. Shane Mosley replied that that wasn’t the case.

He said, “I’m cool with the whole family. Well, I was cool with Roger Jeff, uh, his father, his mother, his sisters, all of them like we we you know, we could hang out everything, so it’s like, I’m not, I’m not hating on Floyd, you know, I just trying to keep it a a 100 of how really feel, but maybe it comes off that way sometimes, but no, I don’t hate Floyd.”
Instead, he is genuinely appreciative of how Floyd Mayweather Jr. made it to the top of the boxing world. But having said that, the fact remains that the undefeated former champion should step aside so that others can win. He had it all going in his era. However, times have changed. “So can you make somebody else great like you are or help them be great like you like you are? That’s the issue, right, and maybe that’s what Tank maybe that’s what Tank is talking about. Tank is like, listen, you know you was already great; it’s my turn now,” said ‘Sugar’ Shane Mosley.
Precise details regarding what precisely caused the differences between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gervonta Davis remain unclear. However, the points Shane Mosley made are thought-provoking. The legacy has to transition to a new era. Only then can fresh ones be created. Only then new stories will appear.
