Already boasting an impeccable profile, the 4x Olympic gold medalist has once again been nominated for another award while pitted against the likes of Jamal Murray. Honoring her exceptional performance last year, Biles received a prestigious nomination from Laureus.
The 26-year-old had dealt significantly with her “twisties” and also suffered from mental health complications. However, she proved her mettle once she came back to the scheme of things in 2023. Thus, when the list of nominees was announced, Biles’ name did not come as a surprise at all.
In a recent update, the official handle of Laureus posted the names of the athletes who grabbed the nominations for the Comeback of the Year award. Shining among the others in all its glory was Simone Biles’ name. They cited her World performance as a major deciding factor for the nomination. Apparently, after a hiatus of two long years, Biles clinched a record four gold medals at the World Championships. Continuing with the good work further, she also recorded her sixth all-around triumph, which was a record.
Playing brilliantly, the next nomination was of Jamal Murray, who averaged 26.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists from 20 games in the 2023 playoffs. Apart from Biles & Murray, other nominees for this year were Markéta Vondroušová, Siya Kolisi, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, and Sebastien Haller.
