The world of gymnastics is anticipating thrilling matchups as the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris near. After a wild trip since the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, two icons, Simone Biles and Sunisa Lee, are ready to take the Olympic stage once more. With the 2024 gymnastics season about to begin, all eyes will be on the Winter Cup, which will take place in the US.
The junior and senior national teams are chosen at the Winter Cup, which also serves as a qualifying event for the 2024 U.S. Gymnastics Championships. But even with their dreams of winning an Olympic gold medal, it appears that Suni Lee and Simone Biles—two icons—are losing out on this important competition.
USA Gymnastics released the “Women’s Winter Cup entry list” via an Instagram post. Prominent figures competing in the event included Gabby Douglas, who was also making a return, Trinity Thomas, Isabella Anzola, Jordan Chiles, Zoe Miller, Skye Blakely, Nola Matthews, and many other junior and senior ladies. Nevertheless, Sunisa Lee and Simone Biles were noticeably absent from the list. However, more than simply these two legendary athletes—Lee and Biles—are not competing in the 2024 Winter Cup.
It seems that Shilese Jones, who also took home medals from the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, was left off the list. Leanne Wong, a competitor for a global title, and Jade Carey, the winner of the 2023 Swiss Cup, are among the other competitors who are absent. Both are occupied with playing for their college teams in the 2024 NCAA season. Joscelyn Roberson, who attended the Worlds the previous year, was also absent from the list and is currently rehabilitating from an ankle ailment. The 2024 Winter Cup promises to be an exciting event even with the icons absent from competition.
The 2024 Winter Cup is slated to take place in Louisville, Kentucky’s Kentucky International Convention Center from February 23–25, 2024. There will be competition for both junior and senior female competitors. On Friday, February 23, at 7:00 PM Eastern Time, the junior women’s competition is set to take place, and on Saturday, February 24, at 1:00 PM Eastern Time, the senior women’s competition.
