Teofimo Lopez Names The Only Lightweight To Give Gervonta Davis A Challenge

Gervonta Davis has an air of invincibility in the boxing ring having beaten 27 of his 29 opponents inside the distance and outpointed the two lucky enough to hear the final bell.

The Baltimore boxer was last out with a stoppage win over Ryan Garcia in April and is looking to regain some momentum in the first half of 2024.

With Devin Haney set to formally vacate his three remaining lightweight belts, there’s a good chance ‘Tank’ – who is currently WBA Regular Champion – will be fighting for the full world title.

Another man who was unified at lightweight is Teofimo Lopez, now a champion one division up at 140lbs. With one eye on the 135 contenders given the chance they may make the jump later, he told the JAXXON podcast that Davis is the best of the bunch.

“Tank is a good fighter for everyone out there who wants to see boxing. He has those things for those people. At 135, yeah he beats all those guys.”

Lopez did reserve some praise for Shakur Stevenson, and said the WBC Lightweight Champion could give ‘Tank’ trouble because the latter hasn’t fought top-level names yet.

“The only one that gives him a challenge is Shakur. Shakur Stevenson will give him a challenge. Because Shakur is technical where you gotta think more. Tank has been fighting C to B class fighters. Ryan [Garcia] is an A+ on media, social, but not as a boxer, we all know this.”

Stevenson versus Davis is high on the lists of fight fans in terms of bouts to make, and could be for a unification in 2024.
