As a successful year of boxing reaches its final trimester, there are still plenty of top quality shows to look forward to – and that might just feature Floyd Mayweather.
2023 will draw to a close with Ryan Garcia-Oscar Duarte, Devin Haney- Regis Prograis, Jesse Rodriguez-Sunny Edwards and possibly even Tyson Fury- Oleksandr Usyk.
Now, it appears that fans may be treated to an additional pay-per-view card, where ‘The Best Ever’ will headline.
Floyd Mayweather Jr has taken part in seven exhibitions since retiring in 2017 and fought both Aaron Chalmers and John Gotti III this year, although the latter was cancelled after six rounds due to a brawl that broke out between the teams.
Jake Paul has been vocal in his call-outs of Mayweather, after the pound-for-pound great beat his brother, Logan Paul, in an exhibition in 2021.
However, ‘The Problem Child’ has also been consistent in demanding that the bout would be a professional one, as he aims to tarnish the five-division champion’s fabled 50-0 record.
According to boxing journalist, Dan Rafael, there are rumours that Mayweather will top a Showtime pay-per-view bill in Las Vegas that features both Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman on the undercard. The 46-year-old’s contest would be an exhibition, ruling Paul out.
“One of the things I heard while in Vegas for Canelo-Charlo is the possibility of a Showtime PPV on Dec. 9 at MGM Grand that would include a Floyd Mayweather exhibition as well as Danny Garcia and Keith Thurman in separate fights.”
Another alternative opponent could be former UFC Featherweight Champion, Jose Aldo, after reports from February suggested that the spectacle was agreed to take place in 2023 following the Brazilian’s retirement from MMA last September.
