Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic could catch Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James in this stat, After a season filled with record breaking performances, Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic could reach another major statistical milestone early next season. In a recent article from ESPN, the top milestones to watch for next season were highlighted, and Jokic unsurprisingly had his name mentioned. Just two triple-doubles behind Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James for the 4th most all-time, Jokic could pass James in that category early next season.

This is a very interesting potential milestone, because James is of course still active, and still very dominant as well. While the Lakers star could tally multiple triple-doubles of his own next season, making it more difficult for Jokic to overtake him in that category, it’s likely the reigning Finals MVP will finish next season with more career triple-doubles than James.

Jokic led the NBA with 29 triple-doubles last season, while James tallied just two of them. Assuming a similar trend will continue next season, Jokic should pass James in triple-doubles rather quickly, and then put some distance between he and the Lakers star in that category as the season moves on.

LA Clippers star Russell Westbrook of course still leads NBA history in career triple-doubles, and will be very hard to chase down, but Jokic will almost certainly place himself at least in the top-4 of this statistical category early next season.
